Default Best First Single

I know this may have been discussed before but I thought we may aswell add another poll to the list. What's the best single to be released first from an album in your opinion bearing in mind the muscial genre at the time, and how important it was to the band?

From a personal point of view, the most important singles were:

- Bad Name, because it catapulted Bon Jovi to fame and success, although most of the other tracks on SWW may have done the same. It's a really catchy song and sounds great on the first listen, but it's not my favourate song now because it can get a little boring after a while.

- Keep The Faith, because after rumors that Bon Jovi were finished it proved to the world that they were back, and back in style with a much more mature style of rock music. The KTF single features a funky bass riff, a great guitar solo and sharp vocals from Jon. One of my fave tracks ever.

- It's My Life, because Bon Jovi are back again with huge success and established a whole new audience (younger generation, like myself), as well as pleasing the fans of old. Good catchy rock song, that still sounds great after listening to it a hundred times or more.

What I believe to be the best first single is Keep The Faith. I think it really proved that Bon Jovi were a great rock band, and although the other singles played a part it's one of my personal favourate, and one of the most important songs in Bon Jovi's history.

So what do you guys think?

I agree with what you said about Bad Name, KTF, and IML. I went for IML because it appealed to a younger fan base as well as tell the older fans, "we're still here."

Aloha !

Keep The Faith, because it's the best song from the list, and because they made a great come back with it. They proved the world they were back and did it with a good rock song. Everything about this song is loud.

They made another come back with It's My Life but it was clearly much more commercially influenced, it's a pop-rock song and not a true rock song. It contains all the Bon Jovi trademarks but it's mixed in a way that it's not a true Bon Jovi rock song. It's My Life will never get my vote.

Everyone who says that Bon Jovi should make rock songs again should keep in mind that It's My Life wasn't a rock song either.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Runaway, because it's the best song from the list, and because they entered the game with it. They proved the world they were here to stay and did it with a good rock song.

I would even say that It's My Life was a 100% pop song.
What are the rock elements on this song?!

Best first singles are RUNAWAY for being THE FIRST single and KEEP THE FAITH. Both marked a beginning,a (new)direction.
Same is true for It's My Life only it marked a crap direction.

However, My fave trackks on the list are KEEP TEH FAITH and YOU GIVE LOVE A BAD NAME.

For me it's KTF ... it was their big come back and the beginning of a new era which was maybe more fitting the european market ....

then it's a rock song with many pop elements.
I have to agree with Seb here.
It doesn't mean I think it's a crap song because it's a great song, but yes it is a pop rock song. I just love it for what it is and make no bones about it.

It's My Life is one of those songs in between the genres. It's loud enough to be considered a rock song I think, and I think it's a very good comeback song. The problem is though like someone already mentioned in marked a kind of pop direction for the band. Crush was just about good enough for Bon Jovi I think but Bounce was even more in the pop genre and too many effects were used giving it an artificial feel on some tracks like Everyday and Bounce for example. IML is a modern day pop/rock song, but it doesn't sound too artificial if you know what I mean.
