Default Best Guitarist Poll

http://www.the-top-tens.com/lists/gr...mHdFc.facebook

"Vote for your favourite guitarist & leave a comment" - usual stuff.

I'm not posting this to do the standard "vote for Richie" spiel more because there's an interesting comment about Richie here: http://www.the-top-tens.com/items/ri...mbora-4776.asp

"Nobody plays guitar like him, from blues to hard rock notes. Do not forget that he won a guitar duel with Eddie Van Halen. It also has well-recognized studies on his acclaimed "pentagonal scale" that many metal guitarists even been used, the difference is that he does not pay for your image out in magazines such as slash and other guitarists who are more Public that guitar"

I've never heard of Richie being in a guitar duel with Eddie Van Halen, nevermind "winning". The only time I can think of that they've appeared publicly together was during some telethon playing "Gloria".

Also, what "well recognised studies on Richie's Pentagonal Scale". For a start, I've never heard of a Pentagonal scale, only Pentatonic and I've never heard of anyone doing a study (much less a "well recognised" one) on Richie's playing style.

That comment you highlighted indeed doesn't make much sense. But anyway, we'd be here all day running around in circles about who is 'better' etc, but one thing that does get me is Slash.

I like him, i like all his solo stuff and most of his work with GNR..but in reality he isn't that special in my opinion, BUT he's got The Image. Seriously, if he was just some scrawny average joe looking guy, without the whole image, nobody would bat an eye lid and he wouldn't be as much in the media and branded the way that he is. I sound similar to what Jon moaned about a few years back in reference to Axl Rose getting all the media hype, despite not doing much of note. Slash live is sloppy, and unoriginal I think.

JBJ - I believe

"Sambora's face is a mask of joyous disbelief, as if previously unaware of his ability to play the instrument at all. Reaching the last fistful of notes, he does a fair impression of a man who is actually ejaculating into his jet black flares."

Completely agree about Slash, just don't get the hype surrounding him. I can understand people preferring other styles of guitar playing (i.e. Eddie Van Halen to Richie) but for pure emotive guitar playing where the solos fit the song perfectly rather than an "oh look how fast I can play" style then Richie is unbeatable.

I think Slash is just alright. I saw him open up for Ozzy a year ago and he put on a good show but if I had never heard of him before that, I would have never guessed he would be so famous.

I agree with you. I can only remember two or three awesome Slash's solos while I can't even count how many emotive and perfect solos Richie's ever played for they are just too many!

I think Eddie and Richie did a cover song of Beatles Get Back It was part of Garage band should be available on YT Don't know of any guitar duel between them

I never really got into Slash's solo stuff, but his work with GnR is immense. He's got that 'singing' tone, has an incredible taste for musicality and melody. the musical range of the "Use Your Illusion" albums and the creativity that the whole band put into it is nothing short of amazing - you find anything from an acoustic blues to metal and punk. It was probably GnR that brought out the best in him, but for that little oeuvre alone he deserves all the recognition he gets.
Plus, he does look really cool.

Buckethead?

That poll has no credibility after seeing that.

Buckethead is a better technical guitarist than all of the others on the list, he deserves to be there more than Slash, Milecevic or Sambora

Why is Clapton not in the top 10 but the guitar player from Tokio Hotel is? And Gilmour? Not to mention Jeff Beck.
