It's the SBD audio that is the highlight of that gig. The video is stage shot from pretty far away and is static. It's a treat to have the audio in such good quality though.

Nothing can't beat that if you ask me... TAALS and LTM both were taken to another level. It's not a long show and neither an epic set but the performance was unreal.
Exactly. For many years Helsinki was my favourite show in terms of intensity, but this just blows it out of the water.

Can you PM me with a link to where you got the MP3 - assuming it's the MK 2001 gig you're talking about?!

Thanks

LOL - listening to the MK gig now and we are pretty certain that the crowd version was recorded by someone stood next to us.
During Tequila, when Jon talks about blokes making a move a girl, you can hear my mate and the girls we were with laughing..... because that's exactly what I was doing!

I have heard many decent recordings, even very good but never came across an 'excellent' or 'pefect' recording.

Ones that come close are probably 2008 Japan and 1995 Korea, also 2010 Japan.

The thing is people doing the mixing either use an IEM source (which is 99% of the time awful), have a crappy AUD source, or just don't mix it properly.

The perfect live recording is not that hard to create, you need a good Soundboard Sourced Audio (not IEM), one which has very little to no audience noise... And one Audience Source which has a good sound with some audience noise but not too much. Then you master the Audience source to make it less muffled, clean it up and reduce audience noise when its too loud. Mix both the sources and add very little reverb and you can end up with an excellent/perfect recording.

Guns N Roses boston 2002 is a great example, as well as various Metallica recordings post 2003

What makes a live recording special to me is that the energy and the atmosphere of the live show is transported.
MSG 05 for example has the audience partly overpowering the band so much with their singing that you partly barely hear them, yet I get chills out of it everytime. Same with Munich 2003, it hasn't the best quality by far, but you just feel the magic that was in the air that night. Or Tampa 1995, Helsinki 1996...

I'd take them over most of the SBD sourced live recordings ANY DAY...

I wonder why there are so many soundboard recodings from 1993-1995 (seems like more than recent years). Is it because many of these concerts were broadcast on local radio or TV?

Just found Camden, NJ 07-25-1995. Not soundboard, but a really good audience recording. Damn, the band was on fire that summer! Jon's vocals were out of this world.
