It's a mix. I really do think if Jon said "let's rock" Richie would do it, because Jon is the boss. But he is fine with pop. I think the real truth is Richie just doesn't give a shit at this point about what they're doing.

Basically I think some of his work on TC and LH are his only contributions this decade worth mentioning. I don't care for Next 100 Years because the solo has no feeling or direction and is overpowered by those dumb fake trumpets. The riffs on some of the Bounce songs are cool... except IIRC they are credited as being written by Jon. Not Richie.

Also I guess the HAND solo is cool.

Or, and I know this is a stretch, RICHIE CARES JUST AS MUCH ABOUT BEING COMMERCIAL AS JON DOES.

Totally agree. It's easy to see that Richie is totally lazy and very easily (mis)led. I do still think that These Days was Richie's record. Since then, he just doesn't give a shit about making decent records. I remember reading an excellent interview in the "Guitarist" magazine just after they brought TD out. Richie explained about the process, his riffs and solos and how he thought it was their best album (not the typical "the best fun we've had since slippery" rubbish). Has anybody got a copy?

Richie himself said the These Days album was about Jon working through some of HIS issues, so I don't think These Days is a "Richie" record. I believe it was about Bounce (or maybe Have a Nice Day) that Jon said that Richie had contributed more to the writing process than he had on any record since SWW. To me that said that those records in between were mostly Jon's writing.

That was Bounce and now with The Circle it was the same story.

Both records were more Jon/Richie records than any other and I think The Circle is the only one where Richie co-wrote on every single song.

I think sometimes you're head is so far up Jon's ass, you don't even know the truth anymore. You make these claims all the time that are just supposed to be taken as facts without having an quotes at all. Like you pointed out on another thread, we weren't there for the writing process and Richie's name is credited on many of the These Days songs. Bounce and Have A Nice Day are no more Richie records as they are Jon, they write together. Richie's flying V influenced the sound on Bounce but that's different.

Ooops, I forgot, all hail, Jon, the only songwriter in Bon Jovi.
