Your immediate thought would be These Days, but I'd go for Slippery. There's a good mix there. Hell, what ever they did with it, it worked.

I think for the most part, all their albums are pretty well produced but as Richie pointed out.

These days has tonnes of layers going on and it still doesn't sound cluttered.

I mean I've recorded demos that have took up 16 tracks just for guitars drums vocals and bass so i can easilly see them using the best part of a 64 track board on these days and it still doesnt sound cluttered.

I'd sign this.

Not that you are wrong..you like what you like.

But if anything..SWW only made me appreciate the live versions that much more. Case in point:

Wanted Dead Or Alive. The studio version does no justice to the song. It mainly serves as a blueprint that would be fully realized on tour. Tico's kick drum intro is just as important to the aural aspect of the song as the famous guitar riff intro, but it's buried on the studio version to the point of going unnoticed. In fact I don't feel they ever allowed a definitive version of Wanted to ever really have a place on any major release. The 1987 live version found originally on the Wanted maxi single does a much better job (eventually put on the Japanese Remaster Bonus disc, incorrectly labeled as Wembley 1995...don't go to head with me on it..I owned that version in 1987 making it hard to have come out of 1995.)

Many of the songs sound too happy...the production doesn't capture the true essence of the song. Yes, that is what was intended at the time. But it was also quickly corrected live. The edge and soul of Die For You wasn't captured on album, instead we have a giddy and bouncy lil ditty. Ditto for Prayer, though the Slippery tour was about the only tour the song was performed with a heavier edge and it's cry of desperation and hope intact before it became a permanent sing along anthem.

I agree with Jim. These Days is one of those albums where I hear something different each time I listen to it.
