5 (points): These Days
4. Hearts Breaking Even
3. (It's Hard) Letting You Go
2. Bed of Roses
1. Wild is the Wind

Almost impossible question but I picked those. These Days has outstanding lyrics, no question about it but Hearts Breaking Even has got a hell of a lyric. No other songs describes a heart breaking even better. Letting You Go is close behind, but not really stands up to HBE. Intressting that the top 3 is from the These Days record. What an amazing songwriting period it was!

1st: These Days
2nd: Keep The Faith
3rd: (It's Hard) Letting You Go
4th: Dry County
5th: Happy Now (just feels like the lyrics were exactly written for my current life situation)

Wow, that was a real damn hard choice. Good (or bad) thing solo songs aren't allowed, otherwise The Answer, Santa Fe and It's Just Me probably would have taken 3 of the 5 spots.

This is way too hard for me to even try to pick 5, but I'd surely say that Keep the Faith and These Days round out the top 2 for me.

Hmmm, I thought about it a lot but it is still really hard to decide. I think it generally tough to right good, poetic lyrics and writing complex and poetic lyrics are not bj's best trait. But they used to be good in capturing emotions or hitting the nail on the spot without thinking about it. Without the cheesy lines (especially in the chorus) many songs would be better lyrically.

Always, Something To Believe In and ST (without the awful chorus) have some strong and passionate parts. But from a story-telling point of view the songs don't really work and I've said before that KTF for instance sounds as if the verses don't really belong to each other.

5. These Days ("even innocence has caught the midnight train" also the use of "Rome 's still burning" is great)
4. Dry County (great images and poetic)
3. Bed Of Roses (almost poetic)
2. Keep The Faith (it helped me a lot through my childhood)
1. Wanted ( Ijust forget about that one)
Letting You Go and Happy Now(Really influenced me in a difficult time in my life) still a bit flat at times) need to be mentioned as well here

5. These Days
4. Someday ill be saturday night
3. something to believe in
2. Dry County
1. Bed Of Roses

All are masterpieces, start to finish. Whereas the stuff from the past decade has only a few brief flashes of brilliance, lyrically. Last Man Standing, Novacaine, Just Older...

Just realised on reading my top 5 back- the 90's is where it was at with this band!

5 (points). Keep The Faith
4. Dry County
3. These Days
2. Love's the Only Rule
1. Happy Now

Very hard task. To be honest I am sure of the first 3. Those are not only the best 3 songs lyrically but also musically for me. And that is why those are my TOP3 BJ songs of them all, in the same order. I know we are voting for the best lyrics this time, but that doesn’t change my vote. They are a mix of PERFECT lyrics and music. Nothing short of masterpiece.
As for anything above, in terms of best lyrics I would chose mainly songs from KTF, TD and TC albums (also my fav albums in general). At this moment those are LTOR and HN, as those resonate with me the most at this stage of my life, but very close behind them are songs like: I Believe, BOR, Fear, HG, STBI, TIMS, BPL, LTL (very very underrated song in my opinion).

Okay I finally tallied the votes (Thank you for voting BTW) and I have decided not to do a poll. Honestly, there is no need. The title track from These Days received exactly TWICE as many points as the runner up. Here are the top 10:

10) Always with 6pts

9,8,7) Something to Believe In, Saturday Night, and Fear with 7pts

6) Whole Lot of Leaving with 10pts - Only song in the top 10 that wasn't released between 92-95.

5) Bed of Roses with 21pts

4) (It's So Hard) Letting You Go with 22pts

3 & 2) Keep the Faith & Dry County with 29pts

1) These Days with 58pts
