IML is probably the best, although the majority of other vocals on Crush are noticeably weaker. Loves the Only Rule is probably the strongest effort in recent years (side note, I listened to TC all the way through the other day for the first time in a good while, I still think its a good record that was going down an interesting route for the band).

Agreed on the Bounce B Sides, Another Reason to Believe being the stand out one, Lost Highway had relatively and consistently strong vocals too (shock, considering Jon was trying to prove a point with this particular record).

WAN was abit of a shock, in terms of how little the vocals seemed to be altered. Although I think it was probably deliberate, it seemed as though he laid down the vocals with the intention of being able to deliver them live as close as possible to the record.

Although I quite like WAN, I have to disagree with you. There's something unnatural and robotic about the vocals. What's Left of Me is a fantastic song, but the vocals are just weird. It's more evident with increased volume.

On the whole, the vocals on WAN are strange and are not suited to the songs (I'm With You, and Room at the End of the World being exceptions).

One song I do think Jon could sing exactly like the studio version is 'Loves The Only Rule.' I know that it is patchy sometimes when he does it live but after 10-15 songs, it will be harder to sing.
On one of the soundcheck videos, Jon sounds awesome when he sings it. Think it was from the first show of The Circle Tour in Honolulu was it?

Don't like his voice on any of the WAN songs, really. 'Amen' highnotes and the end of 'Pictures Of You' are the only standouts for me. Whether they have been autotuned or not, though...

'Undivided' has to go down as one of my favorites too. I just love the raw sound he has. Kind of like the old days. I do think Jon could still do that sort of voice but he just doesn't push himself enough to even give it a go.

I won't argue with that, since the fact is: we simply don't know. You could be right, I could be right, only Jon would know
The thing is, we do know.

Out of all the performances of Have A Nice Day, none of them sound anything like the way Jon sounded on the studio version. Whether they were one off performances, whether the song was early in the set or in the encore, he's never been able to sing it the same way he supposedly sang it in the studio. It's been like that with most of the stuff they recorded with John Shanks. It's not just a matter of using his voice a different way, it's because the vocals are being laid down in a different way than before.

Nowadays every line seems to be coming from a different take, a thing that becomes even more obvious when listening to the way he's pronouncing words with a technique that might sound cool on the record, but also makes it impossible to breathe in between words. It's why Jon's no longer good at singing very fast in a high key, and why more often than not he relies on the backing vocals. Prayer, Bad Name, Bad Medicine, It's My Life, Have A Nice Day...They're all songs in which he skips most of the higher stuff in the chorus simply because he's either no longer capable of singing it, or has never been capable of singing it in the first place. Now is he isn't able to sing Have A Nice Day in the key it is now, how's he supposed to be able to sing it in the key of the original studio version?

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
