He did indeed, but the way he uses his voice live is very different from the way he's using it in the studio.
When it comes to singing Happy Now and Love's The Only Rule it's obvious how much effects were added to his vocals to make it sound as clear as it does on The Circle. The only songs he's been capable of reproducing live have been Born to Follow and When We Were Beautiful, both not the most demanding vocals he's ever laid down. Also, let's not forget how everything in the studio is half a step higher. Jon's become very good at changing vocal melodies live to avoid the more risky stuff, and I think you'd be surprised how poor he'd sound when mixing his live vocals with a studio recording of the band.
