Default Bit of a problem BJ-related

I know this sounds stupid and I know its like going over old ground, but I would appreciate your feedback. I have just started seeing a girl (who is amazing btw) about a month ago now. The problem (and im not even sure if this is a problem - it sounds stupid even typing it) is she likes all pop music (Gareth Gates etc) and I am into, lets just say, real music like Bon Jovi. The only thing is, she doesnt know i like BJ and have every album etc, and i dont know if she would think Im some kind of 'weirdo' (in the broadest sense of the word) for liking them. Its hard to explain, but do you know what I mean? I know it sounds stupid, and i feel like i am making a mountain out of a mole-hill but any advice would be great, especially from females.

Thanks

hey Dannyboy !

IT IS a bit of problem !!!

Well, i will say you're young so i guess your gf too, some of us started their "real life" (yeh, this one with BJ) around your age ;
so, first i'd like to say that maybe she loves the band and you don't know it, she didn't say anything to u for the same reason as yours ; maybe she's not a fan actually, but if someone help her to know Bon Jovi, maybe she'll be the first to buy the new cd ... like so many people on earth ! and even if she won't, no problem ... she can buy anything she likes, during the moment she's don't making fun of you or anything bad or negative about your life and wha u like!

My husband loves them, he's not a fan, absolutely not, but he came with me last time to Paris Bercy to see them and he had a good time, really, i play BJ music every day at home and that's not a problem, he can understand ; i don't really love the artists he loves (in music or cinema), but that's ok, then, i think if two persons are happy to be together, music or wathever shouldn't be a trouble, of course, respect, tolerance and make concessions sometimes ;
But if this subject begins to "product" troubles between you, then you'll have to think about what you'd better do ...

I think you're not alone in this situation, and except extreme situations like : BON JOVI are so old .../ or WHAT ??? you ??? you love this band ???/
well, i think and hope nobody on this planet can say or even think that

Good luck, do what you have to do

Just one piece of advice: Go and get her.
I mean, the personal taste of music should never be a burden when you date someone. If she/he doesn't accept that you like one special kind of music, she/he is not worth it. That might sound hard, but man, if disagreements already start with different tastes of music... If she said you're a weirdo because you like BJ, she is definitely not the right one. That easy is that. And I don't say this because it's BJ, I would say the same if this were about any other kind of music. If she's really interested, your sympathy for good rock music shouldn't be a problem.
Anyway, maybe you can even show her what a great band Bon Jovi is.
Keep The Faith man, you'll make it!!!!

ktf, Johannes

Whatever happens there is always headphones for her to wear while you are blasting out Jovi

Seriously, I think now is the best time to tell her, if you cant except any differences between you then she is the wrong woman for u. ANyway, if Jovi get there 1st No 1 how can they possible be seen as uncool.

Good Luck

Dawn

Thankyou very much, both of you. Maybe we could watch the webcast together tonight live on my computer when she comes around? It could be her Bon Jovi initiation concert

Thanks again

So...she likes pop??? - That's just a period. I mean I listened to Backstreet Boys before I got into Bon Jovi. At the beginning I was like you - never wanted to say anyone that I'm a Bon Jovi fan but later I said: That's Bon Jovi, the best band of the world and their music a big part of my life.
If someone doesn't accept that I don't need him. Well, I discovered that much more people than I've thought like Bon Jovi. Ok, I wouldn't start with "Hey, I'm a Bon Jovi fan, have all their albums and don't miss any concert." but show her this great music and maybe she'll understand. If not - who cares if you are happy together?

I've rarely dated guys who had the same taste in music as me. I don't think it will be a big issue... I hope not anyway. There is probably some musical common ground somewhere if you look hard enough for it. Good luck.

My hubby and I have very different tastes in music. We just switch off who gets to pick the next CD. So, even if she doesn't like Bon Jovi, you'll work something out. Don't worry about her thinking you are weird, either. Everyone has something they are passionate about. Just remember to be as understanding about her most favorite things.
