The point is that fans like us tend to enjoy these such demo tracks because we got into listening to the band and liked them from the album tracks first, many of the demo's that fans love wouldn't fit on the albums.

Any album is put together by the band to represent what they want to share, so any tracks that they leave off are ones which don't fit their vision of what that album should be. If they wanted to just have a top selling album with hit singles they could probably still do it, but they have never pandered like that. We always hear how Jon didn't even like Livin' On A Prayer and Richie had to convince him to use it for the album, things like that. If we want to listen to the songs which didn't make the album we can do that, but we can't know what would do well as singles or album tracks, it isn't our decision, they aren't our songs, it isn't our work to say that.

Yeh but we can still debate it. Its true Prayer might not have even made SWW, didnt they use the pizza parlour jury for that album?? Why not think about consulting the fans again, other bands seem to do it.

If I was a cynic, I'd say because the fans are more likely to go for "Jovi" songs rather than ones that will be mainstream popular and thus = more cash.
(although it hasn't really worked recently)

Well at that time they were at their 3rd album and they needed it to be popular, to sell, or they wouldn't probably have got a contract to do any more. After Slippery When Wet took off they stayed in the spotlight by doing the long tour, then releasing another album which sold well at the end of that, so from then onwards they were well established enough to be able to experiment, to do more of what they wanted, instead of what they needed to sell records.

Now their fan base is big enough that any new release is pretty much guaranteed to sell a few million copies at least, enough to keep the record company happy, in addition to the back catalogue still selling.

Yes, of course we can debate it, we can debate anything, but in a situation like this all it is is people saying which their favourite demo is, what they think might have done better on an album, but no-one can know for certain. Don't forget, it is the more commercial tracks which actually do do well as singles, not the type that we, as fans, like to hear.

I agreed with you Ryan - right up to KTF. I really liked Little Bit of Soul - perhaps just because it was so different.

Jon played a bunch of demos for the 300 fans at the Backstage 10th Anniversary Party (considerably more than the original 25 or so for SWW) and they gave us a sheet of paper to rank the songs 1 to 10.

So while some of us wrote things like "Save the World" and "I Got the Girl" were not really his best, others ranked everything as a freaking 10. I think the website where the demos for this album have been leaked in partial form is probably a much better indicator of what the general public thinks than a fan gathering, except of course for the fact that Bon Jovi fans found out about it and flooded the site. So much for taking care of bias.

My point is they have listened to fans in recent years and that didn't necessarily work out too well either.

Well put. When you take into consideration 80% of Bon Jovi fans aren't really there for the music. And I mean no offence to people but you go to say, backstage and you see how little there are topics about the songs themselves. For most, it's just something to get from point a to point b, with the added bonus of a nice ass.
