maybe I am not understanding what being socially relevant means ? I thought Bounce for example was a socially relevant album, am I wrong?

I'd agree with you that it was socially relevant. I just didn't think it'd been done very well. I don't think victims of the 9/11 would choose to turn to a song like Undivided at the time.

There's a difference between being socially relevant in your actions for charity or politics and being socially relevant in your music and lyrics.

Bon Jovi's lyrical social relevance comes down to "live your life because it's yours and until you die you're alive". They suck at it when they force it as they did with Bounce. As I mentioned on another thread, they tried to be something they're not.
Personal and truely inspired songs like Dry County are a lot more socially relevant, imo, than Bounce and Hand put together.
Keep the fun rockers and good personal songs coming, keep on the great job for charity, and it will do.

I can guarantee you that the crowd at Madison Square Garden didn't give a shit about being socially relevant. I have never heard such an enthusiastic crowd in that venue - and I have seen a lot of concerts there over the years. The energy was absolutely crackling. We all had a blast at a great live rock and roll concert and if that makes us "shallow and not socially relevant" - who cares.

I thought the band tried more socially conscious lyrics on Keep The Faith and These Days, lyrically much more mature. The Americans didn't like it though and everyone moaned that they weren't a fun good time rock and roll band anymore. So they went back to One Wild Night, Captain Crash, I Got The Girl etc, etc and everyone lapped it up. The stuff off Bounce was just a bunch of all for one and one for all stuff mixed in with a bit of never back down, never give in. They obviously felt in the aftermath of 9/11 that was the kind of gung ho stuff everyone wanted to hear.
