But, as non existent as the league is, the AFL has been around now since 1987. I think it's too bad that David Baker, the AFL Commissioner, is resigning. He did a lot for the league under his tenure.

I've had a soft spot for the AFL for a while. I used to do the accounting and tax return for the now defunct Carolina Cobras, so I was on the bandwagon LONG before the Soul became a team.

Notes. After the game, Soul owner Jon Bon Jovi said he would live up to his promise of performing at a free concert in Philadelphia if his team won the ArenaBowl. The date and time is to be announced.

Just a little more football perspective - the NFL team in my area, the New England Patriots - were pretty much nonexistent in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s. They couldn't GIVE tickets away until Robert Kraft took over the ownership of the team. After a few years of new ownership, and changes made to the organization - by the late 90s, the team was beloved in these parts. Sometimes it takes the combo of great ownership putting together a winning team, before the masses take notice.

I am a diehard football fan, and this Soul team would make any football fan proud. They are a dedicated, hard working group of guys (both on and off the field) that deserved to win the championship! I am SO HAPPY for them!

When I was in the US earlier this year I actually had to search to see/get/read any coverage on arena football. Although I started to like American Football lots, I just can't be bothered to show interested in arena football just because Mr Jon Bon Jovi happens to own a team.
It wouldn't be a 'fair' interest in the actual sport if I did....and to be a 'fan' just because JBJ owns a team wouldn't be fair to the players either...

Well, I don't really care about sports myself. And I know nothing about American Football, lol. But of course I'm happy that they won, for Jon's sake. He looked ecstatic in the videos...nice one.

Im not really a fan of football in general, though I do like Arena football more than NFL because the field is smaller and the game is faster, much like my 2 favorite sports, Hockey and Lacrosse. Ive been to a few Arena football games to see the now defunct Hartford Wolfpack play. Congrats to the Soul and JBJ and Richie(I believe he is/was also co owner, no?)

they won the arena football championship(smaller version of nfl) not the superbowl. The superbowl is nfl championship , I can only guess what Jon would give to win that one day...

I heard the speeches on the radio , dont know if they were televised. That trophy is huge, I can see now why someone asked Jon if it was heavy....
