so?

Madonna played Slane festival last year in ireland, 90,000, Jovi played Landsdowne 50,000ish.

figures are not the definative word on whether a artist is better than another artist.

U2 are great and all that, but i cant understand all the hype

JBJ - I believe

"Sambora's face is a mask of joyous disbelief, as if previously unaware of his ability to play the instrument at all. Reaching the last fistful of notes, he does a fair impression of a man who is actually ejaculating into his jet black flares."

I think the main reason why Martin posted this, was because of the amount of time it took the tickets to sell out. If Bon Jovi announced a gig in Austria (or any other country for that matter) it would take much much longer for the tickets to sell out.

For a average stadium show in Europe, I would say, probably 10,000 get sold in the first two days of the tickets going onsale but I highly doubt that Bon Jovi have the diehard fanbase to completely sell out a full stadium in the same time as what U2 appear to do so...

U2 do sell out a stadium very quickly: 1st show in Amsterdam ArenA (capacity around 50.000) was sold out within 20 minutes. A 2nd and 3rd show were announced and those were sold out within the hour. It took them 80 minutes to sell out 3 shows. I don't think Bon Jovi can do that.

Don't forget that BJ are touring very often and when did U 2 tour last time? It's sure that U 2 is sold out quite fast and BJ not. For the generel audience BJ are touring too often. If BJ would tour more rarely they would sell out faster, too.

Bon Jovi toured in 2000 for the first time since about 6 years. U2 toured in 2000 for the first time since 1998. Still their tour was sold better than the one from Bon Jovi.

However I must say, U2 has been away from their beloved music scene for a while with the Pop era and so on and when they returned to their so called roots, people all wanted to be a part of this, which is why their tickets probably sold better, if you know what I mean.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Yeah, I understand. I think this could happen to Bon Jovi too if ´Have A Nice Day´ would actually be a rock record, not pop like Crush and Bounce.

well...let's not forget that JBJ did also a few Austria shows in 1998. I think he played 6 shows in Austria so that's pretty much.

BUT, what the hell does this have to do with which band is better?
U2 are, and you can say what you want, definetly a more mainstream oriented band these days. It hasn't got anything to do with being good or not. As POP or as CRAP Crush and respectively BOUNCE may be, they still are somehow heavier for a general audience than ALL THAT YOU CAN'T LEAVE BEHIND(I didn't hear the last one and I don't bother to hear it).

Besides, who is the only band who sold out Wembely 3 nights a row? Who is the band that has the highest ever number of people at a single act's show concert in Hyde Park? Who is the band who sold out Shepherd Bush Empire faster than ANY other badn in the world? Who is the band that had the most watchers at a concert webcast? Who is the band who drag almost every yeear(if you make an average)80 000 000 people in the Giants Stadium. Well...BON JOVi. Who cares if U2 have 10 000 people more at an Austrain show. By the way, how many concerts to BJ usuallly play in Austria? I think 2 or 3 a tour. How many do U2? I think 1...well....
