None of these songs were written by ghost writers, at least not according to the stories I know. Sure, Jon got credited for rather dubious reasons, but the actual writers were also credited and not "ghosted out".

Blaze Of Glory is a different story, though. But at least it didn't sound like it was written by Aldo for Jon. He didn't credit Aldo for co-writing the music, but at least it wasn't a complete steal.

Either way, there's some heavy Christian symbolism going on with these lyrics, so Billy Falcon might be involved. That guy's lyrics make Jon seem like an atheist.

I didn't say that they were written by ghost writers but the fact that he takes those sorts of liberties makes me wonder what we don't know particularly when you look at the inconsistencies in the quality of various lyrics. Of course, every writer will produce genius and sh!t but Jon really ends up on both ends of the spectrum far more than I'd expect one individual to.

Santa Fe is a 10/10. Best song on the album.

This may sound a bit embarrassing now but could someone please explain this line to me? See, Iīve always loved these lyrics yet this one particular line I donīt fully understand.
A thorny crown would be something that was worn by The Christ, right? What does it mean, driving the crown into someoneīs soul? It must be idiomatic English, right?

I see it as the character saying he's not a good guy. He is (metaphorically) the one who put the crown on thorns on the Son of God. Taken as a whole, that part is basically saying he's seen and done terrible things, but makes no apologies for it

Aloha !

Muchos Gracias for posting this, last time I read it was after I'd posted it. Completely irrelevant review back then, still share many of the points of view in it though. Some ratings are off compared to how I nowadays feel about the songs, but I still feel the album is rather poor by itself. Only a few standout tracks, the rest is boxset material or just feels unfinished. This review with my wisdom still pisses all over anyone else's opinion about Bon Jovi though. Obviously.

Still don't know why Guano City is on the album though. I know it was part of the movie, but so were many other classical pieces. Why select that one? It'd not surprise me if Jon had to come up with a certain amount of songs and couldn't, so they filled the soundtrack with a classical piece.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

I don't want to believe it but I can't reconcile the same man writing the Miracle lyrics and also writing some of the cringey stuff he wrote around that time. Maybe he did but when you see the stories around All About Loving You, Ugly, Blaze of Glory, I do start to wonder if the whispers of Jon using ghost writers or claiming songwriting credits purely to get royalties are true.

As for Dry County, Jon wrote a four minute song. At the suggestion of the band it turned into a 10 minute epic with a great solo. I find it hard to believe that Richie wasn't as involved in creating that song as much as Jon was in writing Ugly for example.
Oooooh, you may be able to help me. The whispers you mention... I recall seeing an interview years ago that I think was with NJ's Lance Larson, the guy whose dad's baseball cap is in Springsteen's back pocket on BITUSA. I seem to remember him saying he showed a song to Jon and Jon liked it but told Lance, "But you know, we don't record songs we didn't write, right?" (wink, wink) Or something like that. Does anyone remember seeing that and know where I might find a clip? Seems like it was for VH1 or The Biography Channel or something.

Maybe they just said he had to have x amount of songs on it, you could be right. Maybe Jon just liked it and said "I gotta have that."
