Blaze of Glory/Young Guns II Remastered

Has anyone ever bothered trying to do some remastering of the album? If so, how did it turn out? Pisses me off - One of the greatest records of Jon's career, and it was never given the remastered treatment like all the other records.

All other records were really poorly remastered. Pretty much all they did was clear up the mix here and there and make everything louder. A good remaster makes you hear things that were previously burried deep in the mix. No such thing happened with the Bon Jovi remasters. All they did was remove a lot of the dynamics in sound, but louder does not equal better.

Blaze has always suffered from poor mixing. Elton John plays piano and sings backing vocals on a few songs and yet you can barely hear him. If that one would ever be released as a 5.1 mix so we'd be able to hear separate tracks (vocals / guitars) I've a feeling there's stuff buried in there that would spice things up a lot and make it a lot better than it is right now.

Honestly, I'll take just a clearer sounding (and louder) record. At least it's something.

The Bon Jovi remasters are atrocious sounding. There's very little dynamic range to speak of, and I'm glad they haven't compressed the hell out of Blaze of Glory. I'm all for remixing it to bring certain things forward in the music, but if they're just going to do what they did with the other albums then no thanks.

I wonder if there are outtakes of this era. I love this album, mostly because Jon wrote it himself, without Child and Richie.

A properly remastered 5.1 mix of Blaze would result in copious loads.

Reading this brought up a question I had a few days ago. The video for Dyin' Ain't Much of a Livin' (which is, on a sidenote, completely based on the short story 'An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge') has a quite different mix of the song with the instruments sounding somewhat a bit different and Elton John's voice being almost on the same level as Jon's on some parts.
Was this version ever released somewhere or was this a mix only for the video?

They invented volume knobs to make music louder. As for clearity, the record is mixed really clearly. It's just that some of it is buried in the mix. Once you bring stuff more upfront it'll lose it's clearity but it'll add a fullness to the songs and will, in my opinion, make the album just sound a lot better.

All raising the volume does is make the sound shitty through your speakers with a bunch of hissing. At least even a crap remaster would solve that issue.

If that's what raising the volume does for you, your stereo is the issue, not the CD. With the first 2 band records the hiss would become more audible when turning up the volume, but as for the subsequent records that followed the mixing was done rather well and by the Blaze was released everything was mixed for a CD release.

As for making the sound shitty, again, your stereo system is the issue. If the overal sound changes when the volume is turned up, your speakers and amplifier isn't able to carry sounds on high volume. The only thing turning up the volume on the CD would do for you is you not needing to turn up the volume, thus your amp not needing to do so much work.
