The readings on this site comparing the 2 versions differ slightly. The 2013 SHM-CD has slightly lower figures than the 1990 CD which would lead me to believe that the new version is slightly louder.
Thanks. I'm hoping the inclusion of the album in the vinyl boxset indicates the possibility of a remastered release in some form, even if it comes down to just a "Mastered for iTunes" release. KISS did a similar release that didn't lead to CD re-release, but saw albums that had been skipped for remastering in the last (like Revenge and Hot In the Shade) get a remastered treatment for iTunes. It's not ideal for me, but I'll take it.

I would say that this is more or less how I feel about THINFS.

Good point, same as me for WAN. My issue is 100 percent the way it sounds.

Modern day mastering & loudness war (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war) were the main points/concerns why I decided to buy the 80s CD versions of the classic four (and dig! the early general mercury cd-label too!!):

You can get these pretty cheap too!

I did the same. Sold the 98 remasters a few years after and have not looked back. The original 80's CD versions piss all over any of the remasters. That's why I'm not bothered about Blaze of Glory (or Stranger in This Town) not getting remastered, because if they did, they would sound crap.

I never had to buy them - I actually had them from then. I also have the Japanese remasters but I'm glad I got those for the additional discs that came with. I much prefer the sound of the original albums.

Is the NJ Deluxe edition from 2014 (I think?) any better or worse?

It's louder than the previous releases but has even less dynamics than all of the versions before.
