Wow... C'mon people... They were honored with the MTV Icon Award.... They are Metal Icons and nobody can deny that. You keep contradicting yourselves with "sellout" issue. Look at Bon Jovi... My god, Jon looks like a Princess nowadays...

I agree with you, although I think these are the 2 bands that most betrayed the hard rock.... But about BJ nowadays, sucks big time(IMO!)

I think the mtv icon show is a perfect example of how metallica has sold out, having Avril lavigne pay tribute to them was kind of disturbing. And do me a favor and listen to the rode the ightning album and then listen to st. anger, if you compare the 2 you would realize how much metallica has sold out. In fact even Load and Reload were torelable to some extent mainly because those 2 abums have a brilliant production, but they felt they had to sound dirty on st anger to appeal to todays target rock audience, which is kind of stupid if you think about it because hey, it's matallica and they could releasean album full of farts and bonus poo and it still would go platinum, it's jst the way it is, they have one of the largest and most loyal followings out there, mainly because of what a great live act they are.

Aloha !

Hey McNabb, Bon Jovi hasn't become a sellout?

1.Rehashing your biggest hit. It's My Life - Everyday
2.Rehashing your big ballad. Thank You For Loving Me - All About Lovin' You.

But one of the biggest reasons why they are becoming a sellout:

QVC. Selling your product by Tell Sell channel in the hope more albums will be sold. And still, it's aaaaaall about the music. Sure it is.

Then take Metallica:

1.Making an album that's as hard as you could make it. They've failed and the album is terrible, but they tried to go back to their roots, and they really did.
2.Touring the entire world. Doing a real world tour.
3.Playing rarities that have never been played before.

Metallica might've lost the plot during the nineties, but they're starting to recover. Most Bon Jovi fans that lost interest since These Days surely won't be coming back. Bon Jovi is losing a lot of fans since the release of Crush. Oh wait, they're gaining a new audience. The teeny boppers that will have forgotten them within one year if they don't get another hit.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

in hindsight TLFR can been viewed as nothing more than sales booster/stop gap to boost sales for the 100million boxset, and even then the boxset turned out to be rather disappointing, especially considering they dvd was a boring hour of interviews (ok the clips were nice), transcripts of which were then repeated in the boxset booklet along with fan comments, which noone in their right mind (unless you're smug enough to submit one) is going to want to read.

The band just seem incredibly self indulgent, and their sole aim appears to be remaining "MTV relevant".... they're the ones who've lost their way rather than metallica...
