Metallica recovered their roots by taking away the guitar solos and triyng to sound like slipknot and korn?? st. anger might be heavy but that album in no way shape or form is metallica regaining their so called roots.
That is if you think metallica's roots are master of puppets or ride the lightning?

Aloha! Don't you DARE call me a teeny-bopper. Just because I'm a fairly new fan doesn't mean I won't forget Bon Jovi within a year. And guess what? I haven't.

Oh dear, Keba feels offended again because I am negative about It's My Life. Ofcourse, I know there are fans that stayed with the band, however, It's My Life and Crush gained such an audience of people that only liked them for that hit. It's the most poppy stuff they've ever done. That's the sort of new "fans" they seem to like a lot, as they're the ones that they can make the most money with.

And before someone comes up with Slippery being the same poppy music and all that stuff, it isn't.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

I don't. It isn't the SAME poppy music but it is what was popular back then. The only difference is that Bon Jovi were among the ones who set the standard about what was popular. Those days are gone and I can live with it.

Er so you disagree about Slippery being the same poppy music but you say that it isn't the SAME poppy music? I'm confused.

I by the way didn't mean that I want them to set the standard again, I just want them to make music that isn't made for the masses but made for the music.

Sebastiaan

You're right. I was not too clear.

But this pretty much includes what I wanted to say. I think it is not the SAME poppy music than Crush, nonetheless SWW was poppy music made for the masses as well.
I think that anyone who claims to make music just for making music and not at all for success, fame and money, is a liar.

1) jon should just drop the whole blue collar ballad stuff (joey, right side of wrong), on TD they worked a treat, but they just turn out clichéd and mediocre nowadays.

2) if BJ were truly a "rock band", hook me up and bounce (the song) wouldve been far heavier, instead they (bounce in particular) turned out sounding very much like a pop band trying to do rock.

3) WHY CANT DAVE/TICO/RICHIE SING SOMETHING?!

they're all fine singers (see TD disk 2) and they're all v distinctive.

Whether its just "proper" backing vocals (as with Queen roger: taylor/brian may) or the odd song here or there i dont care, but there no harm in it surely?

Does anyone know whether there was a particular reason Dave plays no part in songwriting (bar ITA)? or did the jon/richie combo just take off and dave wasnt part of the creative process?

There's no comparison! Metallica keeps on repeating riffs callin' them music. They have like 10 good songs...the rest is medicority.

And Jon has always been saying :" We are a rock 'n' roll band!" - before and after he cut his hair.

Remember what Lars said the day Metallica made their short-hair appearence:" JUST FACE IT! METAL IS DEAD!" - quite strange for a band who considered itself the embodiment of METAL.

Metallica started selling out 1989 when they released the videoclip for one.
Then they sold out with the Black Album which was loaded with ballads. They never had a ballad before.

They sold out releasing a cover album and promoting it as if were their own.
They sold out with NAPSTER. A band who had sold 70 Mil(at that point) should've shut its mouth.

And I could give you several other examples.

BON JOVI have the same album structure from 1984. Some heavy songs, some ballads some mid-tempos and some pop-songs. They released videos from their first album to their last. They never recorded a cover song just to cash in etc etc...

I am not saying Bon Jovi's music is great today or anything. But asking who is a bigger sell-out, the answer is METALLICA.

But I have to give credit where credit is due, Metallica are a great live band!
