Eh? I donīt know what version of Black Album you have but as far as I know thereīs only one ballad on that one. Nothing Else Matters. So I wouldnīt say that that album is loaded with ballads.

Metallica are not trying to be something their not, and never have. Their 80's stuff was aggresive and powerful, they have alot going on in their lives individually with families etc, and i think the music they currently make is better then what most people should expect.

Cutting your hair is not selling out by the way... thats a ridiculous comment. Kirk and Lars are balding actually which is quite bad when you think about it.

Also if you wanna be technical and say that making a film clip is classified as selling out then everyband in the world is. But you would be kinding yourself to say you didnt want money if you were in a good band.

One ballad on Black... Unforgiven isn't a ballad... It's probably one of their best songs.

There's no comparison! Metallica keeps on repeating riffs callin' them music. They have like 10 good songs...the rest is medicority.
This is exactly the problem with them. They keep creating the same song over and over again and giving it a new title and different lyrics. They may be trying to stick to their roots and good for them, but you need creativity to do it, which is something they are seriously lacking. At least Bon Jovi know enough not to try to make a million "Livin On A Prayers" just to sell records.

Unforgiven, nothing else matter and My friend of misery are all considered ballads.

Thank you!

What some people missunderstood here is probably my definition of selling out. I didn't mean cutting your hair is selling out(even if it is)but saying METAL IS DEAD. How can a band whose name is METALLICA say METAL IS DEAD? I mean, what credibility does such a band have?
Then...Metallica changed drastically their song structure. From progressive thrash metal 10 minute songs they started releasing 3 minutes MTV playabale hardcore songs. If they did that from the very beginning no one would have said a word. But changing so drastically means selling out.

Metallica made music for a certain audience as they started. Now they make mainstream music.

Bon Jovi made mainstream music from the very beginning. They do mainstream music today too. Do you get what I mean.

And beside all this, Metallica are from a song-writing pount of view inferior to Bon Jovi. It's just the same recycled crap. And they ecen recognize this by calling albums LOAD and RE-LOAD or by calling songs UNFORGIVEN and UNFORGIVEN II(the only difference is the fact that in one clip they have long hair and in the other they have short hair)...well...

Aloha !

Metallica does not make mainstream music. You never hear it on stations that play such music. Metallica is not mainstream.

And your obsession with rockers with long hair is stupid.

Well I might have a hair-obsession but name one mainstream rock band, beside The Darkness, who has long hair. There aren't any and this is a clear sign that cutting your hair is something you do to remain fashionable/mainstream. I can understand this. And sometimes it's better this way but still it's SELLING OUT(in a hairy way!)
