I'm not saying it was influenced by their love of grunge. You can be influenced by something that you do not totally agree with. There are links in a songs from that album to the grunge movement, These Days, for example. Although, Jon apparently likes Pearl Jam, he attended Madison Square Gardens gig on the Yield tour so I believe.

Lucky bastard

I got all excited when I saw that PJ have a London show scheduled, only to find out that it's London, Canada

don't they usually stop in the old country? Right now they only have a Canadian tour planned, but supposedly there is a new album on the horizon, surely they'll have a full fledged tour following.

It's about time they stopped over here. I can't imagine many UK dates, but one would be nice.

This is one of the funiest threads I've read in ages!!

You lot sound like a bunch of music students debating long into the night over way too much coffee and dope....

'sell outs'....usually means only doing it for the money.

I doubt that either Bon Jovi or Metallica do anything these days purely for money...since they are all unspeakably loaded.

Have they changed their music to allow for changes in music industry taste, and to try to appeal to new fans? Probably. Was that wise??? Depends on your point of view.

Take Bon Jovi. I happen to be of the opinion that both Crush and Bounce suck. Not badly...but enough. I think they verge way too far into the pop-esque arena. My opinion. There seem to be plenty of 'new' fans who like that style.

However...with Metallica...I liked both Load and Reload (not jumping through hoops about St Anger though)...in fact, along with Black, I like those 3 way better than the older stuff. Among hardcore Metallica fans that makes me the devil.

1 simple rule for music enjoyment. If you like it...play it. If you don't....chuck it.

selling out means abandoning ones ideals for the sake of making more money. How much one has to begin with is irrelevant. Surely you know or have heard of people that turn into completely different people once they got loaded.

No, it doesn't. Personal preferance was not the topic of discussion :P

You can still like whatever you want, the fact remains that both bands are nothing like they were or like to pretend to be.

Yup. In fact, I'd say it's virtually to enjoy the level of success either of these bands have had, and NOT change significantly.

This is, for better or worse, very true.
As can be shown with the example of the 'afternoon with JB' at Elements. Jon professes to be a blue collar working man's band....and yet thinks nothing wrong with charging $250 to listen to the new album.
