Their history goes back to '92 or '93 I believe. The story goes something like this. There were a bunch of bands doing Jingle Ball at MSG. 80s music was out, alternative music was in, grunge, punk etc. Green Day was the closing band. After Bon Jovi played , half the place cleared out. So Green Day started to mock Bon Jovi by playing the intro to Wanted and the entire crowd started singing along to it. This caused Billy Joe to have a breakdown......

I think there was tention prior because Bon Jovi were initially suposed to close and Billy J said he wouldn't go on if they werent the closer. Bon Jovi said knock yourself out, stole the show, and the rest is history. I think Billy J exact words were... I can play better than this Wanker.

If I find the article when I get home, I'll post it.

I was actually at that show. I stIll have the ticket stub!

If your going to compare one band at their peak in 06, you gotta compare it like for like. Billie Joe actually seems to have borrowed a lot of rock star moves from Jon - hell, they even mixed in Shout. As usual though with a media quote, could also well have been taken out of context.

I'm more interested in when they actually played ALONGSIDE each other. On the same bill at a festival maybe, but sharing the stage?
London was 95
