I respect your point of view, it's pretty logical.

When I get a single, for ex. Miracle, I stay sited in my bedroom listen the songs that I already heard before and analyzing every centimeter of layer, verifying who were the engineer of sound, producing, etc...

I really love this experience... It makes me feel great, understand all about those recordings...

And to use the mp3 or flac files it's like to sabotage the music history... This remembers me a article by Michael Lydon, who was the co-founder of Rolling Stone Magazine...

But, we can forget the actual world situation... Since the appearance of net, the globalization becomes inevitable... And I'm sure that when there are sound files circulating it's much more positive than negative. That's why some bands are prefering to release albuns, first of all, in MP3 or WMA...

And by other side, some people doesn't have financiers resourses to know listen diferent stuffs, or just don't have a way to import the products... there's a lot of countries that it's almost impossible to import a cd... the cd stores doesn't believe that a person would buy $50,00 in one cd... it's like 3 times more than a national cd.

Nowadays, all people has sacred principles, but some walks strait to egoism...

I don't really follow your logic or maybe it's the way you have worded it.

I think it's great that you want to share music with people from other countries. What I don't understand is your logic on mp3. If you have the flac files, why not just share them that way?

Also, my personal opinion of encoding to mp3 is that when you download these files, uploaders specifically ask you not to encode and share their files in mp3 except for your own personal uses. I look it as you are disrespecting that person who put the time, effort and work to trade and/or record it. It's not like there's any rule that said they had to share it in the first place...

The problem Russ is that an mp3 is not all of the music. The entire top end is cut off. It's not the way the people who recorded the music wanted it to be heard.

FLAC is fine it makes files smaller without changing them whereas MP3 makes them smaller by throwing part of the information away

I agree Neil and Kathleen but unless your in a quite room and be able to hear everything does it matter? When your listening to an MP3 on headphones walking down the street or something you've got outside noises interfering as well so that top end would get lost anyway.

I remember having a conversation about the difference/decline in quality from CD to .mp3 with someone a couple of years ago. He said that "MP3 may reproduce what you hear from a CD, but doesn't reproduce what you 'feel'"

After that, I've noticed that it's quite true. MP3 does sound a little flatt compared to CD. I've always preferred to buy an album on CD anyway, and now I'm glad I do.

MP3's, then again, do have a big convenience factor. For example, quickly making compilation CD's (like I do for my car) or if I simply want to just quickly listen to a song for the hell of it, so there are some

No, and I do the same - I only have 128kb MP3 on my phone, because I know that the earphones aren't very good anyway - but when you're at your computer, when hard-drives these days are more than big enough to store music losslessly, there's no need to compress the hell out of music.

Aloha !

Fontoura **** off, you're an idiot and one of the reasons the File Sharing Forum at this board closed. You always had your rants ready about sharing official stuff and were absolutely clueless when it came to endangering this community.

There's other solutions of sending files over 10MB. You can always upload it to sites like yousendit.com or rapidshare.com or...etcetera.

And Russ, really no offense, but just because you can't hear it doesn't mean someone else can't.

When someone shares their recording in the best available format and idiots like Fontoura rip it to MP3 for whatever reason they feel is appropriate it's the end of the beginning. Because Fontoura's MP3 goes to all the bastards from Spain, and the bastards from Spain convert them back to FLAC "Because FLAC is allowed". However, you lose so much quality that the intention of the taper is lost, meaning getting a recording that's as good as possible.

Keep your MP3 files to yourself, share the FLAC files or other lossless formats with the community.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
