A suprise for me was "Sleep when I'm Dead"

I've known it for years, but only realised a few months ago it was a BJ song
and I've been a fan for about 2 years, and I have the KTF album.

Stupid or what?!?!

I prefer Bon Jovi over anybody's solo, but I have to say that Jon's solo work surprised me a lot. Blaze of Glory surprised me because it sounded so Bon Jovi and the band didn't play on it. DA surprised me because it sounded nothing like Bon Jovi at all. The fact that these two records were written by the same person is just WOW! IS THAT POSSIBLE?

A lot of things have surprised me through the years and most of them have turned out to be things I loved: Santa Fe just blew me away. I love the full sound that comes from the orchestration they add to certain songs. Bang a Drum with the Gospel feel was something I didn't expect. The mellow Miracle beautifully piano based Dying Ain't Much of a Living fall into that category too. I think the Blaze CD was the first indication of a real maturity that was coming in the songwriting. When KTF came out, it was bold. It was wise of them to not rely on the 80's sound and so BON JOVI of them to keep their positive message. The sad undertones of These Days seemed to contradict their previous optimism. Destination Anywhere: that entire CD is fabulous! Jon took risks, did things differently and it paid off in a CD that will never grow tiresome. The narrative style of songs like Midnight in Chelsea and It's Just Me demonstrate Jon's strength in storytelling. A couple of other songs that have surprised me are Prostitute and Temptation. They both sound very different than we would expect Bon Jovi to sound. I do like Prostitute, but Temptation is one that I could live without. The harder edge of Bounce (CD) wasn't exaclty what I expected either. However, I have been very happy with most of what they've done. I've also come to realize that I never know what to expect!

I agree with Becky. Although I must say that I love Temptation. The lyrics are brilliant and I love the sound and feel of that song. These Days surprised me. Basically, as I became a fan with Crush and that is such an upbeat album. These Days is dark, but so heartfelt. It is definitely my favourite album, I could listen to that forever.

She's a mystery was a nice surprise to me.
I like this song really. It's nice to have such special song on a record with so much crap on it.
The acoustic guitar is great, lyrics are great, the hole atmosphere is great.
