You're still ignoring the fact that is is a SONGWRITERS Hall Of Fame

You're a ****ing idiot.

You know nothing about music. Do you have any idea how many Bon Jovi tribute bands there are? Do you have any idea how many artists cover Bon Jovi songs? Do you have any idea how many movies Bon Jovi songs are mentioned in?

I don't give a shit how rock hard Jon's abs are, or how amazing anyone thinks his ass looks in a pair of jeans. They wouldn't still be releasing #1 albums and selling out world tours if they didn't write good music.

Its a hall of fame to honour those who write great songs, or songs that have stood the test of time. But you are saying that the most only influential bands should be honoured, but why should celebrating and recognising the writing of great songs be limited to such a narrow group of bands?

Well lets look at it this way ... every year (although I don't know if they still do it), between Christmas and New Year, Capital FM in London gets their listeners to vote for their favourite songs ever, and they do a countdown of the top 500 as voted by the listeners. I haven't listened to one of these in a good five or six years, but for the first few years of this decade i listened to it pretty much each year ... not the whole 500 songs, just bits and pieces, and then the top 20 or so. And every year that I listened to it, Livin' On A Prayer was between about #15 and #5, over 15 years after it was released. That, to me, is a quantifiably great song, or at least one deserving of recognition in a songwriters hall of fame.

In addition, Bon Jovi typically have a number of songs in such lists, with votes conducted in different places all over the world. To so consistently be mentioned in people's lists of the greatest songs ever has to mean something.

And finally, you can't really measure influence either. What do you do, give them an award if 20 bands or more list them as an influence? Bon Jovi are among probably the top 20 biggest selling rock acts of all time, to suggest they don't deserve a place in various halls of fame is ludicrous IMO

Just to add to this, why is the influence they have on other bands so important to you anyway?

What about the influence they have on people. That surely is the most important thing, and we all wouldn't be here if those songs hadn't been able to influence us.

well, the most "mainstream" of all METAL magazines there is out there, KERRANG!, voted Bon Jovi the 12th most INFLUENTIAL band of all time just a few years ago. Was heavily discussed here, do a search.

And everyone who says they are not an influential band has no clue what he is talking about. I constantly read heavy metal magazines, and despite the fact that the magazines will hardly ever cover anything Bon Jovi related, there's always going to be bands that are interviewed who will say Bon Jovi was a major impact on them. The guitarist of ICED EARTH has just recently called New Jersey the 2nd best album of all time in one of those magazines.

And thinking that a band who has been constantly TRASHED by critics, can achieve something like this is in the end amazing.

Also, Daughtry sucks major ass. My God...that must be the worst version of IBTFY that I have ever heard.

Close ... it was 11th, and the vote was most influential bands of the last 25 years (in 2006, so from 1981 onwards). But yeah, your point still stands, and Kerrang barely say anything about Bon Jovi ever anymore.

The thread is here BTW: http://drycounty.com/jovitalk/showth...hlight=kerrang It includes what Kerrang had to say about Bon Jovi in that issue

Bon Jovi have many songs on those lists because they have had many hits, and though I definitely agree that Livin' On A Prayer has stood the test of time better than some weird one-hit-wonder from 1982, who's to say that Wafflehead by Robyn Hitchcock isn't a "greater" song? Not as many people have heard Wafflehead, but that song is certainly more original...
You say "the most famous songs" as if that ISN'T something that should be recognised in a Songwriters Hall of Fame ....

Why would you say that? He didn't sing it off key at all, he hit every note and there was emotion. If you just dont like Daughtry, fine, but to say it was the worst version of IBTFY is just ignorant and stupid.
