It may have been intended for official use, I don't know when they had come up with the idea of letting the audience shoot footage for it.
It was used in some Japanese commercial (I think for Sanyo) and maybe it was just recorded for this. Hard to tell.

Btw: This is from the actual video shoot and they didn't mime the song, but played it live.
