Bon Jovi influenced a LOT of bands, but that was 30 years ago. Most of the bands arn't around any more. As to Nirvana, they didn't invent anything. They did influence a lot of bands as well, but so did all the other Seattle bands. And there were many before Nirvana.

Ice for the win.

The Final Countdown came out about 4 months before Slippery. By the time it was released, Bon Jovi was already massive in Japan. I wouldn't cite Jovi as an exact musical influence on The Final Countdown, but Europe clearly followed Jovi's formula.

People seem to think that no one knew who Bon Jovi was before Slippery. That's bullocks. The first 2 albums both went gold. Runaway was a top 40 hit, and In and Out Of Love was huge at rock radio. I remember in late 1985, early 1986 DJ's and MTV saying it was just a matter of time until they went insane.

I agree that having someone whose dead helps. But Nirvana were not crap.

Very true.

I dont think people understand quite how big Jovi were. In the UK their biggest time was 94/95/96.

They wont top that in UK.

Final Countdown was Europe's third album, but it was the first to have _that_ sound. They didn't copy Bon Jovi, but for example keyboards were a lot more important on TFC than on previous albums. And the next few albums as well.

In the latter part of the 80s you only had two types of rock bands (before Guns really broke), the Def Leppard-wannabes and the Bon Jovi-wannabes. Even the "old" bands like KISS and Whitesnake did everything they could to be like Bon Jovi.

Perfectly said and perfectly true.

If you werent' around in the 80's then maybe you won't realise that the music Bon Jovi and their peers produced was the exact reflection of the culture of that time.

What's odd is I was in High School when Nirvana broke big - and there was actually only one person in my entire year who called himself a Nirvana fan.

And were a massive influence on pop music at that time and shit even on culture at that time. I am not sure the point you are making, if a band sucks they can still be influential.

Anyway, Bon Jovi influenced that 90s scene in a way as it was rebelling against the hair metal (even though Jovi´s music transcended that genre imo).

In something I agree, the commercial success of Bon Jovi was so huge, that many artists and bands, flirted with the SWW sound.

Aerosmith, Dude (Looks Like A Lady) remember Social Disease.

Angel, sound as cheese Bon Jovi

qQ
"I Want it All" has many similarities to "You give love a Bad Name", similar sound. Start with acapella vocals, and killer guitar riff, much like "bad name".

Queen also, in its way, sure.
