Surely Hendrix was earlier than that?

The styles that were up for voting were hard rock, progressive rock, glam rock, hair metal, new wave of british heavy metal, thrash metal and death metal. No Grunge, no Punk.

I'm still pretty proud that BJ is the only 80s Glam band that made it. Van Halen had at some point huge chances to make it to the top 5 and then in the end they didn't make it to the top.

I would absolutely agree with the first 4 positions also. Deep Purple and Black Sabbath are way more influential for the Heavy Rock scene than Zeppelin, and the readers of that mahazine listen mainly to things way heavier one can see in that list. Also surprizing was the presence of Anihilator in that top. They were one of the first bands to tour Romania and I guess that's why they made it. Like them though...
Zeppelin are so overrated, Deep Purple were an amazing band it's just that unlike Zeppelin and to some extent Sabbath they carried on and soiled their name when maybe they should have quit. I know Sabbath did as well but nobody really considers Sabbath without Ozzy to be Sabbath. I still like going to see Purple though but maybe now Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord have gone it's time to call it a day. Can't believe Tool and Opeth aren't on there, both amazing bands, also Rush should be higher up. Good to see Dream Theater up there though. Bon Jovi may not be Heavy Metal but they are Hard Rock.

A Canadian THRASH Rock band. Very heavy and very well known along thrash listeners. Probably one of the best selling 10 - 15 Thrash bands in the world.

No it wasn't. The Who were mainly classed as a Mod Rock band but they were heavier and louder than a lot of those in the list, especially the 70s Who albums. I suppose their debut was in the early 60s though.

He was essentially unknown in 1967 at the Monterey Pop Festival. He wasn't unknown after that though

The Who inspired quite a few Heavy Metal bands you know, with Keith's Moons heavy explosive drumming, Townsend's overdriven power chords and Entwistle's highly applified bass. I think they went on record as the loudest band ever back in their day.

Jimi is for Hard Rock what The Who is for PUNK IMO so i guess it's ok they are not in. I didn't see any vote for the WHO I must say, not at all. They didn't fit in the timeframe anyway.
