Yeah they don't fit the time frame, but I wouldn't call em punk. Their early stuff was a little like The Kinks, but they moved on from that in the 70s and had a much more of a hard rock sound to them.

that's right. punk is loud but it's not hard rock/heavy metal. the who are a good band and surely much better than their descendants but they are punk's start. they wouldn't fit in there imo.
