Spinal Tap? The pyro goes off to reveal Jon at the top of the stage above the drum riser. It's his entrance at the start of the show. This was modified on the following tour to have him come through the floor during LYHOM in similar fashion as I'm sure you've seen in at least the video for the song. The number of acts with such an entrance is too many to name, but hardly invokes Spinal Tap.

Anyway, I don't think Jon did any drugs. I believe he did say he'd have a glass (or was it a bottle?) of wine before the show. It seems for all of them alcohol was the drug, with pot thrown in for some of them.

I could swear Dave rose through the floor throught the fog in that blue spotlight when I saw them. Anyone else who went remember this? I wasn't that close and video screens weren't the norm then so I may have perceived it wrong.

The reference wasn't meant to be negative, I love Spinal Tap. It's the theatre and pomposity that makes a great Rock show after all.

I only saw them at their UK theatre shows and donington in 87 and dont remember Dave rising up as you say. I do remember Richie falling on his ass as he ran towards the top of the steps during RYH at donington. Dont think it was planned though.

The helicopter flew over the stage when Metalicca were playing so that didnt go down well with them. Yes he was bearded which led Kerrang to saying he went on unshaven as a ploy to get in with the thrash fans.(Metalicca and Anthrax were on the bill).
