The shows that are played on a Saturday in the UK are only from the week before in the US.

"It's been a busy few days for me on the Idol front. So, let's get right to it. Last night I spoke to Jon Bon Jovi at the Vanity Fair Post Oscar party. On Thursday night's Idol it was announced that he would be coming on as a guest mentor this season. Well, as it turns out it's not just Jon who is coming. It's Bon Jovi the group that will be on the show. Jon seemed a bit annoyed that Idol failed to mention this fact. You'll recall that Seacrest just read Jon's name with a photo of just him, " I know, I know, I know but it is the band. The first night they will play our songs and the second night we will come on and sing our new single."
Oh great I am glad it is the whole band coming on. It will probably be Jon and Richie only who do the "mentoring" then the whole band will be on night two to perform.

It will be great to see them on Idol but God I think almost everyone on the show (except Gina) will completely BUTCHER their songs! Too bad that they couldn't have come on the year they had Constantine and Bo.... I mean even the good singers i can't see having a great night.. What the hell Bon Jovi song is going to fit LaKeisha's voice??

The all request hour, the girl in the front row has just asked for Blood on Blood, ok, Merry Christmas young lady!" Amazing <3

So as the weeks go on, with a person leaving each week, so will the amount of hits to choose from. I assume it's going to be singles only, the bigger hits so....

Wait, if the band is truly backing each singer, it may be the first we'll see them do Always (in this manner) in quite some time.

No, Idol has it's own band and orchestra that plays the music. So Bon Jovi won't be playing their songs the night that the Idol contestants sing them. The special guest artist sometimes does perform with the Idols on the results show but i can't see Jon doing that. The contestants will probably do a medley on night two (the results show) and the band will be performing w.o. the contestants if they are doing their new single.

But isn't this the first time a full band has been the guest? I had read in some other post that the band might back them, not sure. I could see the band backing and Jon judging. Having him up there singing would defeat the purpose of a singing contest. But who knows, I'm kind of excited, I don't think I've seen a full episode this season.

Hmm I can't remember if they have ever had an entire band on the show as guests. Anything can happen but I would be VERY VERY VERY surprised to see the Richie, Tico, and Dave playing up there with the kids on Idol. In five years i have never seen that happen. Rickey Minor and the Idol house band has always played the instrumental music no matter who the guest star was or what genre of music. But we'll have to wait and see but like i said i would be kind of shocked to see that happen.

When I said that Jon might sing with them (the contestants) I meant the second night on the results show. The first night (Tuesday) will be just the contestants performing. Sometimes the guest singer does perform with the kids, other times the guest sings alone. Like one year Barry Manilow came out and sang with everyone. I think Gloria Estefan did too. Looks like that blog says the band will be doing the single though so they'll be performing alone.

This season (Diana Ross) (and last season - Queen, Rod Stewart, etc.) the guests are just coaching and helping the kids pick the songs. They haven't had any special guests actually judging since season three (except for at the tryout cities).

Sorry, i'm a little obsessed with the show. It's kind of scary....
