Default Bon Jovi saturates download chart

Idols sell steadily; Bon Jovi saturates download chart

The Bon Jovi boom:

Bon Jovi scored big-time from leader/namesake Jon's mentor appearance on the show. The song the band did last Wednesday, Make a Memory, was the leader among no less than 11 songs that entered/re-entered the chart this week. It's No. 15, selling 51,000, an approximately 20-fold increase from the previous week's sales.

All six of the songs the Idols performed were, not surprisingly, among the re-entries. Tops was Wanted: Dead or Alive, the song that punched Chris' ticket home -- it's No. 25 and sold 39,000 (up 701%), presumably including many downloads by people who wanted to hear it done properly. You Give Love a Bad Name (performed by Blake) is No. 29 with 33,000 sold, up 12-fold.

Next comes Livin' on a Prayer (Jordin), No. 30 with 32,000 downloads (up 567%) to people wondering just how it's possible to negotiate that octave leap in the chorus. Then Blaze of Glory (Phil's exit song), No. 45 with 23,000 (about 22 times as many downloads as the previous week). Have a Nice Day, which Melinda nailed, was No. 46, also with 23,000, around 15 times as many as bought it the previous week.

Then, strangely, It's My Life, which wasn't performed, came in at No. 55, one notch ahead of This Ain't a Love Song, which LaKisha did. Each sold 17,000, It's My Life increasing by 550% and the more obscure Love Song selling about 250 times as many as in the previous week. Who Says You Can't Go Home, Shot Through the Heart and I'll Be There for You also jumped on the recharting bandwagon. Power of Idol ... we'll see how the Bee Gees catalog scores next week.
