The performance was OK, nothing more and nothing less.
I saw all JBJ/BJ appearances at Wetten Dass (1997, 2002, 2007) and none of them was spectacular (if my memory serves Jon sounded even worse on Misunderstood in 2002).
He sang out of key at the beginning and sounded decent during the last part. As it was a one-off performance he surely didn't practice very much and we all know that Jon needs some time nowadays (see LH tour) until his voice is in good shape, so I don't worry about that at the moment.
If he sounds that way on the tour it's a different thing.
I personally don't get why people get so crazy about a 3:30 performance, which even was half playback.

When I watched this live I said to my girlfriend that JoviTalk will get totally worked up on this performance... It is beyond me.

Some facts:
- the host introduced Jon Bon Jovi on purpose for whatever reason (and he knows they are a band as he has introduced them several times, the last time being at the Brandenburg Gate in November)
- therefore Jon being in front absolutely makes sense
- the stages for the music acts are of high quality in general at that tv show
- it perfectly makes sense they flew to Germany for this as Wetten dass has been one of the biggest and most well-known tv shows in Europe for decades and the new single has been released the day before
- apart from the highly overanalyzing folks on this board the general consensus among people watching the whole show (and not knowing or not caring about out of key voices or playbacks) was that Bon Jovi's appearance was one of the highlights (and no, it was not an especially crappy show).
- Jon giving this signed guitar for the people in Haiti was sensed a very warm, aware and humble thing to do and let the host spontaneously take Klum's shoes and his own jacket for the same purpose
- Jon was clearly one of the best dressed men that evening

Ergo: Promotion is not for the die hards. This and the points above make it a quite good promotional act for not even 10 mins of presence.

He never was Pavarotti. I think it was not that bad as most of you see it.
