We all had our influences so I started to listen to what my mates where listening to and discovered amazing stuff, older bands, local artists, national legends etc... I also attended a lot of concerts these last ten years, from 200 people to 80 000 people venues, from the garage band to the monster bands like U2.
What I realised quite quickly in that process is that there are dozens if not hundreds of bands out there that are at least as good as BJ used to be in their writing and live performances, and this at every level of popularity, in any genre. The absurdity of "fandom" jumped to my face.
So as, release after release and tour after tour, BJ became less creative, less passionate, less energetic, even though being still good and a world class act, I just lost interest. The last BJ show I saw in 2005 in Montreal I got bored. It all seemed cliché... slow... predictible... kitsch. I can't say it was crap because 29 999 other people really seemed to be having a blast (though even them seemed to be going through the motions), but it just didn't work on me anymore. And their last release, the few recent videos I've seen, their setlists... all of this is far from turning that around.

I got all that from your posts over time and I do see where you're coming from. I agree to an extent, i.e. that there are lots of awesome bands. Thing is I don't know what band will last - no one really knows. But I don't want to "waste" my time with a band that breaks up, freaks out, gets lost after their break-through. I like the music and I listen to lots of stuff but that's far from being a fan, for me.
I needed a band that I could follow "all" my life, that is somewhat down to earth and not in the tabloids on a daily basis. Luckily, I found this band and they haven't really disappointed me the past 16 years. Sure, they are a little less creative, less passionate.. less everything than in their glory days, but like I said several times I can't find anything wrong with it. They manage to keep it flowing, don't get mentally ill or can't face their success or celebrity status - you get the picture. They almost get accused for being too much average guys - and that is a shame in my book. Good guys don't always wear white.
..and somehow I thought you'd think similarly.
