If a live version of a song is released it should be just as good as the studio version. And every live version since Jon stopped singing the chorus is worse compared to the studio version.

Most selections like Novocaine, Hook Me Up, The Distance, I Am, Wild Is The Wind would've never worked as a single, no matter how good certain songs are.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

I think Wild Is The Wind would have been perfect as a single. They would have cut the beginning guitar intro out, but I could see that working.

My Guitar is a great song, but would not have made a good single. The rest definitely wouldn't have worked.

I agree. Songs like Blood on Blood, Just Older, Story of my Life - Those are Bon Jovi "fan" songs. I don't think anyone else really gets them.

Uh-oh, it's steering us back to the sample conversation again.

I'll backtrack quickly.

forget my opinion - Seb's obviously right, as always

I think Wild In The Wind would have worked, even if just because of the automatic success of the band at the time, but it's not like they released crap songs instead, all the singles out of New Jersey are great songs.

That's a different story for post 2000 albums, for which the first single was generally okay and then the rest sucked.

I can't see a good single out of Crush, except for IML, I don't believe in Just Older, maybe a single edited Next Hundred Years as it is quite catchy but even there I doubt it.

On Bounce, the whole album sucks and it's "heavy guitar" sound doesn't fit radio playlists. Undivided is way overated on this forum, imo. The album came out too late for this song to have any chance as a single anyway. The Distance sucks. Bounce is ridiculous.

HAND, good first single. Who Says obviously worked too. I don't see anything else that would have had a shot at becoming a hit. Last Man Standing would have flopped big time.

LH... Summertime was released in Canada & lasted a couple of weeks before drowing in it's own mediocrity. The title track seems to have a brighter future but I doubt it will ever make it as big as Memory... Strangers would probably be a hit here, unlike the rest of the album.

Was "Summertime" an official label release? I don't think so. Yes, it was played on Canadian radio but CHUM often chooses to play a track off an album that is doing well but the singles aren't being released quickly enough. As soon as "Lost Highway" was released, they choose to play that instead of "Summertime". (They did this with Daughtry as well)

I agree with everything you said, except for The Distance sucking. That's a great track.
