All those people were going to be there anyway. They were NOT brought in just because Richie showed up drunk. While it may be true that Richie has been drinking the past year - this article is obviously a pile of half true gossip.

Somehow I think there is a middle road between Richie becoming a falling down drunk and Richie being perfect

Apart from that article being bullshit in so many ways, so what, he had a few vocal problems...he was hardly making mistakes all the way through the show was he? (Richie has NEVER been a sloppy player,even back in the 80s when im sure he was on alot more than just the alcohol he was always on form live)

And he's hardly Slash now and drinking Jack Daniels onstage is he? Its just because Bon Jovi usually have such a squeaky clean image that critics are now quick to jump on them.

I'm not worried in the slighest about the abilities of the Band to put on a good show.

He may have been on harder stuff in the 80s but he was young, Jovi were on the up after breaking into the music business and everything was going brilliantly.

There's a world of difference between that and excessive drinking because life's dealt him a shitty hand this last year. The frame of mind he must be in, given the circumstances that would seriously test anybody, will still dictate his focus (or lack of it).

I 'm obviously not saying this is the case but I honestly hope it isn't true because it's a slippery slope and difficult enough to pull yourself out of without having to deal with the whole media world in your face at the same time. I hope things pick up for him soon. The guy can't get a break at the moment...

Jon is not a patient man, so I'm sure if Richie turned up pissed, he would show more than a little annoyance on stage, and that dosen't seem to be the case.

As for the article; it's from about the least credible source possible. People at the gig noted that Richie's voice was shot as he had been singing too hard in rehearsal, hence the reason he didn't sing on IBTFY. Wanted was recorded twice with just Jon and Richie and once with the whole band. This was either done as a split between the three different TV shows, or because Richie's voice simply wasn't holding up. I'd bet MTV play the full band version and VH1 and CMT the other.

Richie was on a heady mix of alcohol and cocaine through most of the 80's and into the early 90's and made virtually no mistakes, so I doubt very much that anything he's been drinking recently is affecting his playing.

You remember!! Hehe That is why I used the word speculate, and to be honest I have always thought that about him. The bloating, weight gain, divorce. Again though, nobody knows and I do understand that.

You saying it absolutely good. It impossible to know wich source is more reliable, a utterly gossip site, or the backstager who would be even thrilled if Richie was in outer space and playing all the songs backwards and singing background music of Backstreet Boys on BJ songs....
