At times excellent, at times good... And at times poor too But most of the time excellent. They have so many lines that are so great!

i 'd say excellent because despite some songs are not as great as others THEY REALLY KNOW HOW BUILD UP A SONG......

I'd say excellent. I usually don't mind in one way or another anything that they write. It's just that lately there's way too much mellow stuff ... and I hate when they try and write these story telling songs (Joey, Right Side Of Wrong) ... I don't mind the songs, it's just that they are trying to be like someone they're not, ala Elton's Levon and so on ... and then they out right admit it. I like to see growth ... but they should just get back to basics - and be themselves. No matter what, they are going to be remembered for the so called 'Anthems' they've created, not some story telling song. I don't see Elton John trying to write a new Wanted Dead Or Alive.

As songwriters, I think they're very versitile. Most of the writing is excelent. There are at least two that stick out in every album. Then there's the other stuff which I don't really mind. Then there's that little mess-up that happens ever so often. There aren't that many of them, but they're there.
