MINNEAPOLIS: ACOUSTIC/ELECTRIC
(Wednesday, July 16, 2003)
Last nite (Tuesday, July 15) BON JOVI did something they've never done before in North America. BON JOVI performed a full concert, the first half ACOUSTIC and the remainder of the show full-blown ELECTRIC. The band is planning to release an acoustic hits album this fall and this was a tasting menu! The Minneapolis, Minnesota crowd needed to know this was what they could expect (though e-mails went out and news was posted earlier in the day) so the band send out someone onstage to welcome the crowd, explain what they were about to experience and introduce the band. The woman on-stage was the VH-1 COMMAND THE BAND Winner - as she finished her introduction, the keyboard intro to John Hiatt's HAVE A LITTLE FAITH began and then, the band walked out onto the stage. Jon, Richie and Hugh sat down at chairs placed downstage and began the acoustic portion of the show. They turned a large hockey arena into an intimate evening and played songs that may not normally turn up at your average Bon Jovi show (Diamond Ring, Something to Believe In, Love For Sale.) Then, halfway through, the band shifted into electric mode and kicked into a full-blown Bon Jovi show. The crowd was just as electric. By the end of the show, the band was exhausted, Jon was in a bucket of sweat and the entire arena was up and dancing... an incredible night. A very special show for Minneapolis.
The AXS email mentions something about members being able to see/hear the show later in the year, so maybe they'll give us access to the full show.
