Default Born to be my baby - intended as a folk rock song

I was just reading on the site of german radio station SWR3 about I'll be there for you reaching number 1 on the US charts and came over this information:

Born to be my baby reached the number 3 spot in the charts. Bon Jovi's producer was a little disappointed by that fact, stating the following:
"Born to be my baby could have been a number 1 hit as well. The song should actually have been a kind of slower folk-rock song, an anthem in the vein of Bruce Springsteen. But the guys played it a bit too speedy and made a rocker like Livin' on a Prayer out of it. I absolutely disagreed on that."

(translated by me, hope I got the essence right)

I didn't know about that. Even the first demo we have heard of that song is almost the same musically as the album version.

So I doubt that this information is right. Wonder where they got it anyway.

Any thoughts on this?
