I still think Breathe is a really good song.

"Each song played was just another example of how ingenious these guys are at writing choruses that make you feel like there’s a big game tomorrow, that you’re the underdog, and that you’re going to win."

I've a feeling the 7 demo's offered on the various singles were songs meant to be on the album, as they're very, very finished and not demo's at all.

If I remember correctly both Another Reason To Believe, We Can't Dance and No Regrets were meant to be on Bounce. It'd also explain why Bounce is such a schizophrenic record with a little bit of everything, yet never really falling together; too many different writing sessions with too many different approaches.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
I cas see that being the case with the Bounce record, but with HAND, no song added later was a single. Yeah they worked on the songs a little bit (not much differences) but HAND, Welcome and Who says were all written before they got sent back to the studio....

'Standing' is the best song from the Bounce sessions... or at least of the rockers.

I think to remember it sounded slightly different. But then again, it's been years since I listened to these versions.

Speaking of the alternate versions, WHY exactly did they change "I wanna live, do more than survive" to "I wanna live, I wanna survive"? It kinda destroys the point of that line.

Also, that song's lyric matter is VERY weird for BJ. Especially given their age when it was recorded. I wonder if Shanks had that one lying around. It's got his writing style all over it.

It's been awhile since I listened but wasn't the earlier lyrics more Jon pointing fingers at his parents and he chickened out last minute and changed the "you's" to "I's"? That might have something to do with it.

Yeah, before the album was supposed to come out (February 2005) a press release was issued with quotes from Jon. "personal and introspective views on issues I may have had growing up that I certainly would have never discussed publicly before. I've always kept this 'chin up, glass is half-full' kind of optimism, and [now] I showed some chinks in the armor."

Once the album was rejected and delayed the tone of the record changed a bit and some lyric changes were made that made the above quote rather irrelevant. I also have a vague memory of Mom Bon Jovi not being particularly happy about Backstagers discussing this on "her" board, but I'm not sure if this is correct.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

That sounds right. I never thought about it that way but HAND had darker undertones that I felt were removed when the songs were re-worked and added. Last Cigarette and Wildflower have such a poppy vibe and to remove lyrics like "Who are you to tell me that a child don't know?" kind of hammer home how vanilla they wanted to sound.

I heard from what I considered a reliable source at the time that the band was against Jon pointing fingers at his parents with I Want to Be Loved because it was so different from what people expect from Jon.

Bounce

That's the track list on my player when I listen to this album ... I get a much stronger album, electrifying, powerful. Nothing to do with the original track list.
I thought "Satellite" was Crush outtake.

I have it under 1999 in my collection so that sounds about right.
