I'm usually the biggest defender of Rdkopper in here, but I'm 98% he is wrong on this one.

Yeah the guitar riff definitely has that 80s sound but the chorus and the high bits definitely has than 92/94 demo era. It almost has the sound of Love Ain't Nothing But a Four Letter Word (rock version without the brass).

Also im pretty sure i've watched interviews where Jon has got it totally wrong about when songs were written and released...im sure its either 92 or 94
I'm thinking early 80's because he is so high. Like 85ish. What gives it away for me is the rasp in Jon's voice. Listen to Edge Of A Broken Heart then listen to Outlaws. It's that same voice I've been missing for 20 years now. I remember listening to the Box Set the day it came out and instantly pegged it for '85. And then Jon's blurb in the interview I attached just confirms it.

We should ask.
One can only dream. They need to dig deep and far.

The problem with Jon is, he hates all the great songs we love.

He didn't like Outlaws but "had" to put it on there

He contradicts the crap out of himself though, simply because it was so long ago. You can hear him say Why aren't you dead was recorded for Crush, then it was KTF, with paperwork saying '94. Three separate eras. There'll never be a way to know for certain when it all came from and it's maddening. I've been ranting on here for years about how they claim Ordinary People is for These Days. It's not. Nope.

That's not how things work. You don't record 30 songs and then hand them to a producer to make something of it. No one really knows how much had been finish with Bruce Fairbairn before he died, and most demo's that have been released from the Crush era have a different feeling to them compared to what Real Life sounds like.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
8:11 forward tells the same story I just told. He states "written" and I think he is saying the ones Richie written, not the one. I haven't watched this in 10 years and it's hard to hear Jon in certain parts.

I love Outlaws of Love, and I'm also pretty certain it's 80s, sounds nothing like the Keep The Faith era or even the New Jersey era, I'd put it at Slippery at the latest.

There's others on that official list I strongly disagree with as well ... Satellite, Last Chance Train and The One That Got Away mainly

I believe The One that Got Away was written for the movie Message in a Bottle and it fits the timeline of when it came out. The other two I'm iffy about.

I could be wrong, but it just doesn't sound like Crush era Jon to me

I think "Last Chance Train" was recorded around 1998, if I remember rightly. The vocals (and maybe the whole track) was pitched up a few keys on the box set version aswell.
