These Days is my favourite album, not just my favourite BJ album.
Its amazing how some people are so different - i dont thinks theres any 'cheese' on it at all, i think its a very mature work of art, and i cant fault it at all (except 'all i want is everything' isnt on my version..)

Songs like Something to believe in was such a change of type of song for them, that i just apprectiated exactly what they were trying to do.

I suppose i just ''get'' the album. Just like theres some people out there who 'get' Bounce for whatever reasons.

JBJ - I believe

"Sambora's face is a mask of joyous disbelief, as if previously unaware of his ability to play the instrument at all. Reaching the last fistful of notes, he does a fair impression of a man who is actually ejaculating into his jet black flares."

I think These Days is a really good album save two or three tracks. I think Lie To Me is overated and I don't like It's Hard Letting You Go and Diamond Ring either, but apart from that it's a solid album. It has its rockers like Hey God and Damned, it's good mid tempo songs like Something for The Pain and If That's What it Takes, and some great ballads in This Ain't a Love Song, My Guitar and Something to Believe In. I think the band experimented instrumentally on this one, and in my opinion it was for the better as it brought a change to the music, without losing much quality.

These Days is far and away my favourite album. Head and shoulders above anything they've ever done in every respect. It's an absolute work of art!

Aloha !

Lie To Me was the last ballad besides This Ain't A Love Song that worked, sounded honest and had everything that made a rock ballad a rock ballad.

I was too young in 95 to remember the critics about TD. What I know is that the first time I heard it, I fell in love with it.
I don't think that people here love it just because it wasn't a big succes - or, at least, I don't. I don't feel the need to defend the album, I can just express my opinion. And my opinion is that These Days is a great work, doesn't matter what people (or critics) say about it.

I get some points - it was "dark" more "meaningful" etc but that still doesnt make for good music.

Im not saying These Days is bad, far from it. I just think the love for it here is way over the top. In terms of quality albums I think is pretty middle of the road. Not as bad as Crush / Bounce / 7800 but nowhere near as good as SWW, NJ or KTF. Yet to follow the constant referencing you'd think it was the best thing they had ever done.

Just had to get that off my chest. Thoughts?
liking an album is subjective. pretty simple really unless you're so stuck up your own arse you fail to grasp that your opinion does not equal what everyone else will think.

These Days is one of my favourites as well.
I feel it somehow made the band complete following the preceding 5 albums, as if they had exploited every line of inspiration they could have as a band.

With what they've done since, which wasn't always crap but always had a "wannabe" feeling in my ears, I'm beginning to think they should have split after the TD tour and work on their solo careers, where they sound more authentic, to not lose credibility as they did among a part of their fan base at least as large as the one "earned" since Crush (That's a personal speculation).

That last sentence is way to long isn't it...

I fell in love with Slippery first, then NJ was a great 2nd album both of these I would list as my favourites... Im a big TD fan , it a dark and meaningful album, requires the right mood to listen to it. I listen to it every 2 wks being a hormonal woman !
