Jon was dubbed Captain Kidd by the UK magazine Kerrang! due to his wearing an American flag cape, sunglasses, and a captain's hat. It stuck, but it wasn't the brainchild of anyone in the Bon Jovi camp. King of Swing... that's got some sordid sexual story to it that was addressed in an issue of Playboy in 1980-something. I don't recall the details. If no one else can answer off the top of their head, I'll try to find the article. But I'd rather not... so someone else answer, please! LOL

"We made a lot of friends, gave them nicknames. Richie, he calls me Captain Kidd. The king of Swing is Richie's nickname. His comes from two California women whose names have to be protected, but one of them is an L.A. rock star and she saw Richie one night, late. She called him the King of Swing, and I guess I should evade the rest, because he had a lot of fun with them." There you have it! Wonder who the "LA rock star" could be?
