Don't say never. Though I'm not a true Coldplay fan, I respect their music and I have to say that they are one VERY talented band with a big career ahead of them. Bon Jovi was popular (for the most part) in the 80's... Coldplay is one of the most popular right now in the 00's... I find a lot of their music upbeat and quite amazing. Look at the numbers with their last album and of course their latest.

I agree with you with all but the upbeat thing.
Coldplay is a lot of things, but they are NOT upbeat.

Speed of Sound, Clocks, are just a couple... They have a quite a few from their first album and I know on their latest album X&Y... They have some of the most upbeat songs they've written. Sometimes you have to look at upbeat a different way. They certainly aren't upbeat like Bon Jovi once was.

the problemw ith coldplay is that they put out trouble for a single which is definetely gloomy and they've just been tarred with that brush ever since when they're not like that at all. It's kind of like people saying radiohead are depressing when their knowledge of radiohead extends to creep.

you don't need marshall stacks and les pauls to be a really good band and they make some of the most beautiful music out there in the mainstream today.

and they kick ass live to boot.
if bon jovi and coldplay had played one after the other at live 8 i'd gaurantee every neutral person in there would say coldplay kicked BJs ass live.
