Me too Maya. Someone had sent me the link to the article and my heart just fell into my stomach. Man, I so glad he, Dave and all the other passengers are safe.

Captain Paul Holland was piloting QF107, his last flight to New York before retiring next week after 35 years with Qantas.

Thank goodness they're fine. I read this line, and the first thing that popped into my head was: OMG!!! Just like the Titanic!

My husband has had this happen on business flights. If you fly enough I guess this stuff will happen. Hopefully the guys were not too alarmed- I know when I am in first class I am fairly oblivious. Just so thankful they are ok and I am sure their wives and kids are too.

I agree with Becky ...thanks God it wasn't a too bad failure for the whole passengers ...
and Yes Mongoose said it right too ... we just don't notice when Jon is not on board but those kind of failure are rather "usual" (not so much but ... I have several friends who are pilots .. we just don't know about it but problems occurs often)
anyway THANKS GOD it wasn not a fatal failure (the pilot flew during 35 years without any bad failure ... so it's still the safer way to travel .... :P but I hate that anyway )

Engine failures happen and if it's only a shut down there's no need to even abort the flight. A normal 777 can fly all the way across the atlantic with just one engine, planes are safe.
I love flying and enjoy it a lot, and I know that if something occurs chances are almost 100% that the flight crew will sort it out, as in this case. I wouldn't get jumped up about this, even though the thought of losing BJ bandmembers in a plane crash isn't the funniest of thoughts. But alas, everyone is fine and doing great, so all is good!
