I must admit that this statement came across pretty harsh and made me angry as well.
But thinking about it - I don't think he meant it as strong as it came across (no, I'm not putting my fan glasses on now, just gave it some more thoughts).

I rather think he made that statement because many people see in him the rockstar and nothing but that - he probably wanted to point out that he isn't just that 24/7, but that he also has other things he's focussing on in life.
I don't think he lost his passion for music, just because he seemed to be very into his charity projects in that interview. And he said he enjoyed talking about that more - who wouldn't after being asked the same questions regarding the music for 30 years?!
Wasn't it the same thing with his approach to acting? In the mid/late 90's there were interviews were he seemed so much more fascinated by the subject of making movies than he was by the music.
I also have a day job - and other things I do in my spare time with a lot of passion. There's a lot I put into both, and I'm very passionate about my day job, but still I see it as something where I have work to do for making a living. For Jon, singing is his job. Of course he was blessed to do what he loves for a living, but still it's what he has to work for and put a lot of effort into to make the money. I think he sees the Soul Foundation as an opportunity to get out the daily routine and have fresh and different impressions in his spare time. Honestly, I don't see much wrong with that...
The intention of the sentence "that's not what I am" probably was meant to point out that he's not just a rock singer, but that he's got other things taking place in his life and he's more that just that.

I don't like the whole "I choose what songs are on the album" i.e. no-one else has any input. That's a bit arrogant I feel when Richie as written half the album as well.

But at the end of the day the final decision is Jon's. He is the one that has to sing, and sell the songs to an audience so if Jon doesn't like the song, chances are it isn't going on a record.
I don't however think he was slighting Richies imput. He has said numerous tiimes, that Richie has alot of sway with him when it comes to picking songs for records, if Richie can make a persuasive enough argument for a song Jon will give it to him. for years now he's given Richie credit for persuading him about Prayer.

Only just watched this last night. Can't say I was impressed by Jon's constant dismissal of his "day job". It started as being quite humble, but the more he whined it just seemed like it was an annoyance to him, which as someone who spends a hell of a lot of money seeing them on tour, it left a little sour taste really. He wouldn't be in the position to invest this money in these causes if it wasn't for his boring day job.

Maybe it was just the fact that he had this interview solely lined up to plug the foundation and didnt want any music talk to come in, but it really wasn't a good impression at all. If this is how he feels, I hope Richie fields more of the interviews plugging the new album as at least he can exude some passion about it, whereas with Jon it always seems such a chore.

I believe he said in this interview, during the I tunes segment, that it annoys him that after he has spent 6,8,10 months in the studio working to make every background vocal nuanced, every part as perfect as he can, that someones way of hearing it is 10 cent earbuds. Doesn't sound like a man who isn't into his music.
I think he pushes the charity work thing these days, because he feels that the more attention that is on these projects, the more light that is spread on these issues, the more people that get engaged in them and involved, the more that can be accomplished and done to solve these problems. I aslo think he thinks that the "fame" has to be good for something, so it might as well be used for this.
Couldn't agree more mate. People on here need to just take things at face value a little bit more

I got e impression he was getting a bit sick of the questions and a bit sick of her. She was annoying & yeah we've heard these questions before. But I think he was hoping to go down more the line of his freelanthopy rather than the usual "so slippery was your benchmark....split in '90, biggest grossing selling tour ever...blah blah".

That's what I can't stand about him - He claims he wants no accolades for his charity work, yet he takes these interviews and that's all he wants to talk about. He's so full of it.

Like I said, it's great what he does for charities. However, at the end of the day, nobody cares. If he doesn't want to answer the same questions about his music, then he should stop doing interviews.

You're totally missing the point really aren't you. How do you think charities get their money and increase awareness? These things are exactly what is needed to boost a charity profile and thus get more money in for it.

People on here really need to chill and stop being so damn paranoid that our "icon" is ****ing us off all in the name of the dollar. Yes we know he runs Bon a jovi as a business - we've all known this for years. It doesn't bother us because we still go and see the best band in the world. So all you moaners - get with the bigger picture here or just shut up and stop moaning. Like a broken record
