Post Confession

Hi,

In an "evening with Bon Jovi," Jon descirbes Bed of Roses as a confession. I also later read that a lot of problems were exposed in the song. Any ideas as to what this means?

Probably got something to do with that blond Jon thinks is still in his bed and the mistress forcing him into the spotlight where he feels lonely, missing the one he'd die to defend.

Aaaaaaaaaaaawwwwww how romantic!

I always thought it was obvious - He cheated on his wife and was confessing to it.

Listen to the lyrics right after the guitar solo.

i think he's cheated on his wife more than once - its not like he keeps it a secret in songs and he hints about it in interviews!!.... spose its tempting in his position but it doesnt make for a good love song

Jon wakes up with a hangover. At his side some blond he banged all night. But he doesn't want to see her anymore because he feels so guilty. So he goes to the piano and tries to write a confession song to his wife who he misses a lot. "Baby you're all that I need".

How can we blame him since he's at the one and only point on this planet at the exact opposite from his home. Luckily, there's a payphone there so he can spend his fortune to call his love and wait for the bird on the wire to grant him a lift. "Baby blind love is true" (especially over the phone).

Then he get's drunk and laughs at a winking wig before passing away, or so he thinks. (Never quite got that part...) "Solo on the moutain with an unplugged electric guitar".

He finally manages to talk to his love, but she's about to go to sleep (time delay from one side of the planet to the other - Jon shows his coherence as a song writer here). So he orders her to know he'll have her in mind during is job hours. He won't be alone but will feel lonely like the wolf anyway, and if she doesn't believe that too bad for her because he's got nothing to prove. "It's you I'd die to defend."

One last time (well twice actually) he'll say how he wishes her the softest and freshiest bed of all when he'll lay in his made of guilt and loneliness. Though you can tell another blond will join him so the song can loop and the listener can get stuck in that vicious circle along with his idol. Genius song writing again.

Now if that's not romantic or great material for a good love song... I'm ready to quit listening to Bon Jovi!

Ponrauil, kind of bored really...

I once read that the blonde was actually his vintage blonde stratocaster guitar.

Well Jon can do whatever he wants with his guitar, it's none of our business. You shouldn't spread such rumours.

What's that called anyway? Melophilia?

He probably got the idea from Richie. That's why Richie makes all those faces when he's playing - there's holes drilled in the backs of his guitars.

well i dont think singing about cheating on someone - no matter how much you love them - is particularly romantic - shoulda kept his mouse in its house in the first place n declared his love rather than letting it loose and then going on about how he loves his wife etc etc..... the more romantic thing to do would be to just not cheat on her in the first place and if he loved her so bloody much he wouldnt have, therefore in my opinion a song about cheating is not romantic and hence why bed of roses and always are pretty much at the bottom of my jovi faves......In these Arms and thankyou for loving me are beautiful songs however..... jus thought i'd add that
