I'm not sure about it being "completely different." The saying goes: All meth is speed, but not all speed is meth.

Uhm, why use one term when another was originally applied? Meth is associated with total **** ups. Speed is a drug alright, but it's far less horrifically connotated. I find it far more believable BJ did speed in the 80s than meth.

We don't tend to regard any distinction here in S Cali, so I've always seen them as the same.. just different names. To me, "speed" was a term for "meth" just as "dope" was a term for "marijuana." At one point, that was how people referred to it and is now outdated. Changing it in this case just made it more dramatic. That is the honest truth.

When I was young (in the 60s) it was called speed and even us stupid hippies knew that speed kills. Now it's called meth - same drug - mostly same results.

Meth = methamphetamine. Some of the amphetamines are used for cognitive problems ADD ADHD etc.
