Bon Jovi: On Tour
With David Bryan
Keyboardist and Founding Member
Friday, May 25, 2001; 1 p.m. EDT

Bon Jovi is on tour now throughout North America and Europe until the end of July promoting their new album, "One Wild Night." The group's been together since 1983 and the original quartet has remained intact since then. Their arena rock concert fans are legion and most of their audiences are on their feet cheering on the "You Give Love a Bad Name" superstar rock group.

Keyboardist and singer/songwriter David Bryan will be online Friday, May 25, at 1 p.m. EDT, to talk about the tour, the group, the fans and what keeps up the group's energy level.

Bryan's debut solo album ("Lunar Eclipse") came out earlier this year and features a collection of acoustic, piano-based material done in an emotional rock 'n' roll style, showing off his musical range. The album concludes with Bryan singing the Bon Jovi classic he penned, "In These Arms."

Below is a transcript.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

washingtonpost.com: David Bryan is being delayed. He will be with us momentarily.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Portland, Ore.: Dave,
What is your favorite show or most memorable show that you have played this far on the One Wild Night tour? I was at the Vegas show, and it was amazing.

Anne Delina Johnson

David Bryan: Thank you. Every show is amazing. I think when we played Wembley Stadium was for me the most memorable.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.: Are there major differences between the crowds you perform infront of her in the U.S. as opposed to Japan or Europe?

David Bryan: No. I think everybody who wants to come to a rock show wants to have a fun time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kevin - Sterling Va.: What is your favorite stadium/place to play a concert?

David Bryan: Giants Stadium.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Phoenix Ariz.: Hi Dave, Lisa again. Will we see an "official" Dave Bryan or Lunar Eclipse web page soon?

David Bryan: Yes, for now, it's www.rounder.com.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chicago, Ill.: Will either of the Giant's Stadium shows be filmed for public release?

David Bryan: Potentially. We're just working out the deal right now.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Englewood, Ohio: How would you feel about putting on a show in an intimate setting as in Storytellers and allow the fans to create the set list?

David Bryan: Sounds like a good idea.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chicago, Ill.: Jon has his acting and Richie has his solo career - what do you like to do during your time away from the band? Do you see yourself still with the band in 10 years?

David Bryan: I do solo records, as in "Lunar Eclipse" is my new solo CD out. I have two musicals in production. And I'm always collaborating and writing with other people.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monterrey, Mexico: Why you didn't put a double live album instead of one?

David Bryan: There wasn't enough time to put it together.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Salt Lake City, Utah: When building an album, you write and compose more songs that actually make it on to the album. Once you sort through which songs make it on the album, what happens to the ones that didn't? Do you ever save them for another album, or are the 'tossed out'?

David Bryan: Some are saved and some are tossed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shari Black Velvet in England: You once said that you'd love to work with Elton John or Billy Joel. Have you ever actually mentioned it to either of them? Do you think you ever will?

David Bryan: I've jammed on stage with both Billy and Elton. In the future, yes, I'd love to work with them but there are no plans now.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Caracas, Venezuela: When will be your latin american tour leg?
Will you come to the country of Tico's girlfriend, Venezuela?

David Bryan: Right now there's no plans on this leg. Probably with a new record out next year.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Amherst, Mass.: What made you choose "In These Arms" for Lunar Eclipse?

David Bryan: I wrote it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

San Jose, Calif..: Who are some of your musical influences?

David Bryan: A lot of classical composers, for example, Mozart, Beethoven and Bach, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and too many others to talk about right now.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stilwell, Okla.: Hi David. Do you see yourself "branching out" into the acting scene, like your band-mate, Jon?

I love your album! Please don't ever stop with your solo work!

Loretta Lofton

David Bryan: Thank you. For the time being, there's enough work for me to make music.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

St. Clair Shores, Michigan: I remember seeing you playing piano at the beginning of a movie from the 90's. What was the title of the movie? I remember being freaked out that it was actually you. Will you be appearing in any other movies, or working on any soundtracks like Jon did?

David Bryan: The movie's called "The Netherworld" and no plans right now for any other movies.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New York, N.Y.: Have you guys considered putting together a B-sides album?

David Bryan: Potentially.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Milan, Italy: Last CD you bought?
Last movie you saw?
Last book you read?

David Bryan: The last CD I bought was Train. The last movie I saw was The Mummy Returns. Last book was Drew Carey's Dirt Jokes and Beer.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Darcy In Chicago: Will there be a new record recorded this year?

David Bryan: We'll begin recording this year and hopefully have it out by spring.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liverpool, England: Who do you get on most with, in the band and why?

Thanx
Kevin B

David Bryan: We all get along great.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Boca Raton, Florida: What was the band's initial reation to how the Crush album and the song "It's My Life" took off?

David Bryan: Joy and elation.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Portland, OR: Hi Dave,
What are your plans once you get back and finish the last half of this One Wild Night Tour? Any plans on promoting your CD? Which is awesome by the way.

Anne D

David Bryan: Thank you. I plan to promote my CD a little bit and the band plans on going in and writing and recording a new record.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Michele - Raleigh,NC: What are the subjects of your two musicals? Are they slated to be produced somewhere?

David Bryan: One is based on Sweet Valley High, the book series. The other is called Memphis and is based on the deejay Dewie Phillips. They're in the production pipeline which is moving ahead.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Laquey. Mo.: What will the band be doing after the tour is over??

David Bryan: Sleeping in August and starting to work again in September.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ridgefield, N.J.: What do you think of today's rap and hip hop music? Is it something you like or no?

David Bryan: I like some of it but I'm not the biggest fan. I like songs with melody.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pittsburgh, Pa.: Hi David! I'm so glad that the band is doing great and you did some stuff on your own. My question is when you come to Pittsburgh is there anything you remember or anything that stands out at your concert that some of your fans might have done for you?

David Bryan: The thing that stands out in Pittsburgh is my good friend Norman Nardini, a local musician, good friend.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Betlsville, Md.: I have always loved the fact that Bon Jovi included keyboards in their music, something that not many bands do. Does the band give you a lot of freedom to sculpt the piano parts in the music? Has there ever been a part that you thought just didn't really work or fit in, and so changed it accordingly?

And, do you feel as though, in general (performing and song-writing) you are given "artistic freedom"?

David Bryan: I write all my own keyboard parts and I have total artistic freedom. Thank you for caring.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chase City, Va.: I've have played keys for about 22 years now and have often described my style and inspiration as David Bryan-like. What is your secret to effectively creating perfect keyboard tracks for rock & roll in the virtual keyless rock world of today?

David Bryan: Thank you very much. I'm glad I can reach out and touch someone. Making records is a craft that I study and continue to study and those parts come from must working real hard.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chase City, Va.: Do you ever perform solo at smaller venues? If so, in what area could a fan catch your show?

David Bryan: I plan on doing it in the future--playing small shows. Go to rounder.com for info.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Perth Western, Australia: Dave, can you tell me, will you guys go back to the studio and release another album, and also, you must come back to Australia, you have to, come on dude! I want more live songs, and demos too, you guys are truly an inspiration!! And you personally are a genius!

David Bryan: Thank you very much. We had a good time playing the benefit there a couple months ago. Yes, we plan on going into the studio and making another record for potential release in the spring. We'll be including a lot of bonus tracks when we have our 20th year anniversary in 2004 -- a box set.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Milan, Italy: Any project for a Xmas concert?

David Bryan: Nothing's in the immediate plans.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Florence SC: I really enjoyed the concert that Bon Jovi did in Greenville SC and was very impressed with you going to a local school in that area and spending time with the children! I am a School Resource Officer in South Carolina and I love music and I was glad to see you take the time out of your schedule for them, I just wish it had of been in my school! Our 8th graders are using Its My Life to play at their graduation from middle school! Do you think that Bon Jovi will continue to stay together and keep doing concerts in the years to come? Thanks, Renea

David Bryan: Thank you. My involvement in the Save the Music program has been very rewarding and yes, the band will stay together as long as it's fun.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Frederick, MD: Dave,

I saw a video clip of you all golfing. Do you play alot? Who is the best golfer? What other things do you all like to do for fun?

David Bryan: I don't play enough golf. I really enjoy it though. Tico usually wins. There's not much time when you're touring and promoting a record for free time. Playing the shows is my fun.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Irvine, CA: Has your writing, and performing style with Bon Jovi changed since you started writing for the theater and movies?

David Bryan: With each song you write you get better at the craft.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Faro, Portugal: What do you think of your first live album?

Cristina

David Bryan: I'm very proud of it and I think it came out great.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Albuquerque, NM: Who are the kids in the video played during the concert when you all perform "I've got the Girl?"

David Bryan: Actors.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Melbourne , Australia: You have acheived so much and look like you love every minute of it . Are there ever days where you look at each other and say"I can't beleive we get paid to have this much fun?"

David Bryan: Everyday.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Danville, Illinois: Hi David!

I was just wondering if the band has some idea or direction on what the next album might take?

I know some of us who have been fans for many years have thought we might like to hear some tunes similar to what was on the Slippery album.

Thanks to you & the band, you guys have given us all something to believe!!

Take Care,

Ali

David Bryan: The new songs aren't written yet, so I can't really tell you what it's gonna be like. We're still in the tour mode and when we get in the album mode it'll start to take shape.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Austin, Texas: When you guys sit down to plan a tour, what are the deciding factors on what cities to hit. I ask because you played Dallas this last tour and as far as I know, you guys haven't been to Texas other than that in a long while.

David Bryan: We have eight trucks, ten buses and about a hundred people on the road, so when we put a tour together there's a lot of planning that takes place to move us efficiently across the earth.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bohemia, N.Y.: I know you like to keep in shape (it shows ) Are you into taking any Vitamins/Supplements/Herbs?

Awj

David Bryan: Thank you. Yes, at this point in my life I have more pills than clothes. And that's all legal, herbal stuff.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sixstring@High Wycombe, England: What do you think has been Bon Jovi's best Album to date?

Will you be doing a solo tour in the future?

David Bryan: They're all my babies. I love 'em all the same.

There's no plans right now for a solo tour.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Danielle from Kitchener Ontario Canada: When you write a song, what or where are you doing when it usually comes to mind - or does it just come unexpectedly??

David Bryan: Songs come unexpectedly and songs also come by sitting down and writing. They come in all shapes and sizes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gail ENGLAND: You guys always look like you are having lots of fun and seem to be great friends, do you ever get upset with each other and do you go on holiday together?

David Bryan: We don't get upset at each other too often and yes, we do go on holidays together.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Purvis, MS: How often do you get to see your families when you are on tour?

David Bryan: We work touring around families. We make sure we take breaks after a couple weeks or so.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Buggenhout, Belgium: dave, as a belgian beer lover I can't understand why you like Heineken beer so much!! Have you ever had a belgian beer? if not, june 3th may be the perfect day for it!! You'll never touch a Heineken again!!!
Liz

David Bryan: I've been in Belgium and Heineken is just one of the beers I like. I'll drink any beer anybody gives to me.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Darcy in Chicago: What will be the next single released? What about a live track?

David Bryan: The next single is One Wild Night and we have a live record that's available and out this week.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alexandria, Virginia: Dave, do you know who will open for Bon Jovi on the US part of the tour in July? SR-71 was GREAT!

David Bryan: Thank you. We're just working out a couple deals right now. No one's confirmed yet.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bethesda, MD: How is touring different now for the band than back in the 80's?
I've seen you guys play often over the years. This time around, the band seems very energized and more relaxed at the same time. Does it have something to do with the stage of your career?

David Bryan: Yes, thank you. With every show you play, you get better.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Beck: Stoke, England: Hi again!
What first steps would you reccommend for a pianist & guitarist (me) who would like a future career in music (preferably rock).

Thanx!!

David Bryan: Take lessons. Practice, practice, practice. Write songs. That's a good start.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Santa Fe, NM: Will the band tour the US next year (2002) or are we in for a "long break" from Bon Jovi again? When will work start on a new Bon Jovi album? Will you ever play New Mexico again?

David Bryan: Our plans are to have a record out in the spring of 2002 and a tour to follow. And we plan to play everywhere.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Detroit, Michigan: Dave,
Does the band have any input on the prices of your concert tickets? It seems like concert prices are getting outgrageous!

David Bryan: Yes, we do and that's why our tickets are not at the top end of the scale. We want ours to be affordable for our fans.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Helsinki, Finland: What is your role when making decicions about Bon Jovi as a band?

David Bryan: We're a democracy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Woodbridge, Va: How have you liked touring with the band SR-71?

David Bryan: They're a good band. I wish them all the luck in the future.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

England: If you could relive one moment of your life which would you choose?

David Bryan: Playing Wembley Stadium.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BayView, Wisconsin: Over the years Bon Jovi never had to change their sound to attempt to be more appealing to the ever-changing format of today's music scene. Why do you think that is?

David Bryan: We've stayed true to who we are and we have survived because of it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welden, Germany: What do you prefer: hard disk recording or recording on tape? Which method did you use when you recorded Lunar Eclipse?

David Bryan: I like both. Lunar Eclipse was recorded on hard disk.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Germantown, MD: How does it feel to be one of the most influential rock bands of the 80s? Do you think it is hard to live up to that? After being such a massive successful band, what do you think has been the reaction of the 90s audience? What do you think is the future of Bon Jovi music-wise.

Long time Bon Jovi fan all the way down from Mexico...

David Bryan: We've been going at it since 1984 and hopefully we'll still be going at it at 2084.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Frederike, Utrecht, The Netherlands: How was the shooting of the last video's? Was it weird shooting some again after quite a while?
Say hi to the rest of the band!

Thanx!

David Bryan: No. Shooting videos is a little on the boring side but we're excited to be back with a new record.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shari Black Velvet in England: On the recent tour you've been doing up to five encores, however, some of the bands I've seen lately prefer to say 'to hell with the encore, we're just going to stay on stage and play extra anyway'. Do you think you might do that sometime?

David Bryan: We do both. It just depends on the night and how we feel.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

KeyDevil, ABQ New Mexico: Which song is your favorite to play live?

David Bryan: Living on a Prayer and Wanted Dead or Alive.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Laguna Beach, California: Which version of One Wild Night do you prefer? Don't you think that the original version (on the album) was far more rocking?

David Bryan: I like both versions and I think both versions rock.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cordy, England: What do you think of Bon Jovi tribute bands and have you ever seen any of them play?

Also, thanks for playing Grants Tomb in the rain on Monday - you made my vacation!

David Bryan: Tribute bands is a very nice compliment. I haven't seen any play and thank you for standing in the rain in front of Gran'ts Tomb.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Bryan: This reaction to this Web chat has been unbelievable. Thank you to all 1400 of you. Your questions were great. Check out my new solo record at www.rounder.com and I'll be coming soon to a city near you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Bryan: Thank you all very much.
David

Somehow this stuff sounds very familiar to me, but I don't remember why I know it. Thanks for posting so I could read it again...

Amherst, Mass.: What made you choose "In These Arms" for Lunar Eclipse?

David Bryan: I wrote it.
That's confusing. Nobody really seems to know who actually wrote which part of the song and how much.

David Bryan: I like some of it but I'm not the biggest fan. I like songs with melody.
I so agree.

Hey I wanted to put that into my signature a while ago and didn't know where it's from!

Same for this one.
