I don't care about other bands. I don't follow those 'other bands' (whoever they may be). And that is a major reason why. They aren't worth the money and the hassle and the time.
For instance, I don't mind U2--Joshua Tree is great, as well as some of their other stuff, but I won't pay to sit through a Bono sermon at a concert event or watch him interviewed on tv or buy his records with any regularity the way I have with BJ over the years, so I don't care how ridiculously he deifies himself on and offstage. Hearing it on the radio here and there is good enough for me.
And I will certainly never pay 200 pounds for a concert from a disingenuous man who campaigns and proselytizes the virtues of NOT ripping people off, but continues to raise prices far and away above the 'just a little more than movie for two and a popcorn' he used to always quote in interviews while offering little in the way of innovation in his product, which is all it is to him: self image and product and self-deification.
"I wanna sell out the desert" again and again (and then lecture everyone else about how they shouldn't act similarly in their own lives).
"I am gonna save the environment and so must you" while flying around on jets that guzzle thousands of gallons per flight and using gigantic trucks to hall your stage equipment around to boost your vocal-staleness, not to mention the ridiculous excess at every concert
There are precious few people on the planet more wasteful and corporate than people like Jon Bon Jovi. That is a fact.
So, it's insulting. Interview after interview now is worse and worse.
Just insulting.
And that dampens any ridiculous fantastic irreverence I would experience paying 200 pounds and pumping my fist and acting like a crazy blissful idiot at a concert or listening to an album. Surely I should be, instead, outside picketing such wasteful excess and campaigning for change in my Prius or hiding in a hole somewhere and plugging my bum so I don't pollute so much after eating delicious and diverse ethnic food.
If he would just stop telling/suggesting to other people what to do and, in fact, how to live their lives (ironically) so much, it would all be fine and dandy.
Sorry for cursing earlier. NO EXCUSE for that.
