Pop music, the way that SpainSambora means it, is the type of music written to sell. The lyrics are meaningless, it has a catchy chorus, and is written purely to sell records.
That`s Bon Jovi today...Many of the songs are meaningless and has catchy chorus....not every song but many of them. On Bounce is "The Distance" the only song i can say has deep lyrics, maybe RSOW too.
That`s what i think.

I don't think you've heard enough pop songs with meaningless lyrics. Bon Jovi is still more advanced they are.

most rock lyrics are pretty meaningless, and are certainly not deep..... Do you really think that Livin on a Prayer has cleaver, deep lyrics?????

The majority of songs that have deeper lyrics are ones that rock, but are a little less in your face, like Dry County, or even Stairway to heaven (pre rocked up bit ).

I would describe elevator music as "lame assed sh*t" -- but to each his/her own

yes i think "prayer" is much deeper then songs on Crush and Bounce, listen to the acoustic version of it. Bon Jovi making music only to sell these days...i mean, who the hell ask Max Martin and Andreas Carlsson for help? They should have quit playing after "These Days"

I'm sorry, But Bon Jovi aren't Sprinsteen!!!!!!

Born in the USA, great rock song, probably better accoustic, fantastic poetry.....

Livin on A Prayer, fantastic rock song (better rock song than Born in the USA by far), accoustic, cliche's are highlighted.....

I personally do think live for the fight when it's all that you've got..... followed by a typically 80's cliched key change is not deep at all..... "we're half way there, we're living on a prayer" huge cliche. "We've got each other, and thats enough for love, we'll give it a shot"..... can anybody say cliche????????

These Days are deep lyrics, and one or two songs from keep the faith, but asside from that Bon Jovi's songs aren't deep meaningfull songs.... Personally, the first four albums for me are Bon Jovi's real rock albums, or at least uncompromised rock..... yet these albums don't contain the deepest, most thought provoking lyrics!

To be honest I wouldn't say that this is even the case..... I'd say where Bounce and Crush don't work lyrically, is they are TRYING to be deep and meaningfull, when they're just as cliched as other songs, I mean, how can anybody take a song like "the wrong side of right" as anything other than a cliched ridden ballad (and poor one at that).....

I don't think Prayer is stronger lyrically, but because it doesn't pretend to be deep, and it is about the energy, and the power of the song, the actual lyrics themselves aren't stressed. On Bounce and Crush they are..... On These days they were, but hell, they were great lyrics :P

Also, Livin on a prayer is difficult to critisise, and you kind of think whatever criterium you have for a rock song, that song rocks so much it just has to have it!!!!!! Unfortunatly, the music on Bounce isn't good enough, and you find yourself listening to the lyrics.... big mistake!

Some (critics) may argue with you here and say: That's Bon Jovi. Period. (Meaning that's what Bon Jovi has always done.) Meanings are in the eye of the beholder.
